Just wondering what the most common practice is for attaching zoas to frag plugs when the zoa isn't attached to a piece of rock..

when the zoa isn't already attached to a small chip of rock, then I find just super glueing the polyp to the plug to be a ver imprecise artform. Sometimes you use too much gel and the polyp gets stuck in it and is inhibited from opening all the way or even opening at all.. Other times use too little gel and the polyp can be swept off into the flow never to be seen again.. For the polyps that I do get to stick permanently to the plug, they never seem to grow as fast as the polyps that are self-attached to a small chip of rock and then glued to the plug..

so basicaly wondering if there is a more precise technique then just super glueing a polyp to a plug..

I take a 20 water bottle and cut it a couple inches from the bottom. Put some rock ruble in it and drop the zoa in. Place it out of direct flow for a couple days. Once stuck to a piece of rock ruble then you can glue to a plug.

thx for the tip.. will try next time around..

Or you can take a plug and sit it side by side and wait for the zoas to naturally grow onto the other plug.

Something else I'm working on is a aragonitre flat rock with holes drilled in it for frag plugs. Instead of gluing the zoas to the plug I'm putting the zoas on the rock itself once the zoas grow to the plug naturally I can just swap those out for blank plugs

I was thinking about something like that just for population control. You can place it around the things that grow like crazy and just pull the plug to thin out the area.

Hey guys I have some zoas with very long stems. To frag them would I just cut them off at the base where they meet the rock or should I cut them halfway down? I am just wanting to try cutting off one or two of the larger ones for now and then will put them in the bottom of the water bottle till they attatch to a piece of rubble.
Thanks for the info..
FF..
