Dosing iodine in the tank? I've heard this helps with zoas.... I dose it once a week per bottle instructions.

My lord of rings did this. My king midas started doing it so I pulled and dipped them... unknown results yet

the high light, high flow, low nutrient environment is not ideal for them but if you feed heavy[and still export heavy for the sps]then you should be able to grow them.my tank is acro and z and p dominant.both do equally as well.
feed,feed,feed,then export export export lol

In other words, perhaps your tank is too clean or has too little nutrients available for consumption.

My thoughts as well.

ARC....so nerdy our President breaks bones while bowling. :-)

I only have two fish in my 35g and a good bit of zoas. I pulled my skimmer about a month ago and zoas seem to be growing a lot more.

I think he may have a mix of the two. If I remember correctly, he's running an OD'd 8 bulb fixture and a fairly low nutrient system. Might require a little tweaking on both ends.

I have the same problem with my zoes. I had a rock with about 150 radioactive dragon eye and some other zoes (don't know the name of them) on the same rock the dragon eye are shrinking and dying off. but the other type is fine. my phosphates were 1.0 but got it down over the past several days. I have new bulbs in my lighting. nitrates are a little high but other than that everything looks good. I also feed dt's phytoplankton once a week. I do have some brown polys higher up in the tank that get a white film around the edges of the polyp. I had a anemone up there and thought it was the anemone stinging it. so I got rid of it. don't know what to do at this point. I may try to take the rock out and dip it in medicoral.

If you have 1 colony doing fine and another colony getting wiped out, I would lean towards thinking it's something predatory.

I have heard others mention this issue in ULNS. And they have pristine systems. I've been tweaking my system more for SPS in the past 4 months and have seen a noticeable decline in zoas. I started to wonder about GFO's impact on zoas. So I took my GFO offline yesterday to see if it helps. Do you run any types of chemical filtration?

I do find that dosing amino acids (I use Fuel), helps in a ULNS.

Some of the absolute easiest zoas that I would really be surprised if they melted on you are, Pandora Paly, Green dragon eye, king midas, nuclear green, AOG, mindblowing, and sunny D.

I have always heard that iodide is absorbed by softies first. So if you dose iodide it is usually for your sps when you have a mixed system. It usually helps the sps color up.. I use aquavitro vibrance daily about 0.10 ml... I don't test so i keep it at a minimum just to see if it helps SPS..
