whats up, Im about to pick up a 60g cube that has a rim ontop of it and was wondering if i could just take the platic pices off the top to make it a rimless? i think someone was telling me thats all you had to do because that pice isnt really holding the tank togather its justthere really, has anyone done this? thanks!

It's not on there just for LQQKs... the plastic trims holds the corners from stress and holds some of the center tank bow in check. If you want to remove the plastic go ahead but i would think later you will have probs. Take and get you some glass the se thickness or next size up and silicone to the top. It will be less sightly and brace the glass as needed. Just make sure you use aquarium safe silicone and you let it cure a min of 3 days

There are rimless cubes - made that way. Thicker glass. If you take the rim off a rimmed one, it will likely fail from the stress. Like Charles said - the frame is there for a reason.

Not to mention the top edges of the glass are likely unfinished and will be sharp and/or jagged.

In short, it's been done before, and people use eurobracing or some other kind of internal bracing to provide the support you're missing when you remove the rim, but it's done at considerable risk.
