Why electronic ballast are more efficient:
http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/alldataforalamp.php?x1=72&x2=17&x3=EVC 400W 10000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N">http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/alldataforalamp.php?x1=72&x2=17&x3=EVC 400W 10000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N</a>

I will select a few popular bulbs and the spectra analysis of each

Run on M59 Magnetic Ballast:

This is the EVC 10k reading.
[IMG]http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=72&x2=17&x3=EVC 400W 10000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N">http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=72&x2=17&x3=EVC 400W 10000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N</a>

XM 20k:
[IMG]http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=49&x2=17&x3=XM 400W 20000K SE">http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=49&x2=17&x3=XM 400W 20000K SE</a>

XM 15k (1/2 the light of EVC 10k)
[IMG]http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=103&x2=17&x3=XM 400W 15000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N">http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=103&x2=17&x3=XM 400W 15000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N</a>

Radium 20K:
[IMG]http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=50&x2=17&x3=Radium 400W 20000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N">http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/passed-link-id.php?x1=50&x2=17&x3=Radium 400W 20000K SE 1&x4=Magnatek 400W (M59)&x5=N</a>

This is why I went with the EVC 10K bulbs when I had to buy new one, and ditch my Radiums.

I use to do light readings with my eyes, by looking at the bulb and see how bright it is. I can do this with XM 15k and every other 400w bulb so far. I tried to do that with the EVC 10ks for .089 seconds and i'm already blinded.

Also got meselves a new skimmer from George. It already had the big venturi mod the Berlin XL. Ran a Mag 9.5 and a huge airline, but it was skimming way too wet. Had to add a 3.5'' PVC extension to make this guy skim dry. Works AWESOME!!!

where did you find the evc 10k bulbs?

I think I might try one too

I think they're the brightest bulb ever made for 400W thats above 10k. They're not yellow like the Iwaki, but neither are they blueish white like the Radium 14K. You will not need actinics unless your sandbed is extremely white. Despite having some green/yellow tone to it, the light still puts out a very high amount of UV and <500nm blues, more than higher Kalvin rated bulbs. The neon and flourscent comes out just fine under these, even more so than my old 14ks! Maybe it's because they produce X2 more PAR.

hmm, not sure if I should go radium then

tank is my wifes, softies and lps, she loves fogspawn/hammers/torch
