I was thinking of going with 100 Micron Felt socks.

Any advantages or disadvantages with the felt or micron size?
Any info would be much appreciated! :fish:

Most folks using Felt socks use 200 micron size. I use 100 micron in the mesh.

Can you clean out the felt socks without any problems? Is there any anydisadvantages with the Felt?

I liked the mess but it didn't hold up to bleach well, felt held together better but harder to clean.

+1, I think the felts polish better but get nasty and you have to hit them with bleach; oh and double or triple rinse just to be sure. I have considered mesh, would love to hear about peoples experience with them.

I've used mesh socks for years without any issues. I would not go back to felt socks if you paid me.

Just switched to mesh and so much easier. I washed my 200 micron felt socks with bleach in the clothes washer after every use with double rinse and air dry time. I recently got 100 micron mesh and rinse them with tap water and after several uses soak in a bucket of water with bleach. Save yourself some time and find the mesh socks.

If you're so inclined you can have my old felt socks but you're a ways away.

Having both....I like the felt for initial cleaning but then switched to mesh and LOVE them for ease of cleaning. If you are going with 4" felt....I've got a couple of spares you could buy off me to try first.

I've been struggling with the 4" felt. My hands are too big to turn it inside out without a lot of difficulty. I want something that is a pretty fine filter if possible. Do they sell 100 micron mesh?
Anyone got a suggestion on where to buy?

you don't look pretty good...

Ok i was just going to make some felt socks because it would be so cheap but it sould like i might need to go for the mesh.

Ill likely get a pair of mesh as well to use mainly and then throw in the felt when im cleaning.

LoL! Es posible, but I know nothing about filter socks, I've never used them before.
If someone wants to suggest something I can look into it this weekend.

They have both of these on sale right now. The only problem i see is the rings are made of metal/steel. Im guessing that would be a problem in a saltwater tank? Here are the links:
