Acanthophyllia has something under it.

I say put a camera up and wait to see what bites at it. If its one after another, chances are its a fish switching between coral. Pests dont kill coral in a day, let alone jump from species to species.

The worms you found is because it was a dying coral and they were attracted to the smell.

If the fox face murdered your leather, then its very likely its killing the other coral too. The only reason you dont see it, is because whem the fish see you by the tank, they are more worried about you feeding them...try staying somewhere in the room where they cant see you. Guarantee you will find the culprit in 15 minutes.

Now this one looks unhappy. I've moved things to what should be lower flow areas. For some reason it seems to be getting a lot more flow at the bottom left of my tank despite not having change a thing.

I didn't take pics but I'm seeing a lot of these vermatid snail on rocks and on the backs of some snails. I'm getting some bumblebee snails tomorrow and going to try and move as many of my other snails to the sump for a little while.

The biggest problem is what to do with my maxima clam in the mean time. I don't want to get it killed and I certainly don't want to lose anymore acanthophyllia. They're not cheap.1000005756.jpg

Vermatid snails irritate, but not to the point where they would be killing off multiple LPS coral. There has to be something else going on. Do you ever take a flashlight to it in the middle of the night? It’s how I’ve found and managed quite a few different things, both bad and good.

Yeah, I do it frequently. But more so in the am since my lights don't come on until noon. I've seen a few worms in the sand but that's about it. When my foxface was eating my toadstool it was during the day like he was going to the kitchen for a snack.

I do it with a blacklight. That doesn't seem to scare things off like a regular light... except the foxface, he turns all kinds of crazy colors/patterns and his spines flare out. 😅

While could lead to problems soon. I don't think it caused your issues earlier... if your torch got better the day after, its unlikely the rust was the culprit. It would have gotten worst if the metal concentration was too high.

Definitely would have caused major issues if you didnt notice it in a few months though!

I just noticed tonight that one of my candy canes has a few completely dead heads on it now. A colony i have of a different color on the other side has some heads being different colors from the rest of the colony as well.

I'll upload pics tomorrow.

Hmm... do you have any inverts in the tank like shrimp and hermits? Or have you had any that died in the last few months?

If it was a rust issue they would be the first to die.

Also what size tank is it?

Also another thing to keep in mind after looking at this first pic...

The wellso and acantho will 100% kill eachother being that close. It wouldnt surprise me if they were killing eachother at night but then playing nice during daytime.

Same issue will happen soon with that plate coral and Cynarina.

Not sure if that skeleton section is new on the cynarina, but if it died of at any point recently may be getting stung by the plate..

Lots of inverts. Trocus, nassarius and turbo snails. I also have a cleaner shrimp, tiger conchs, and a sand fishing star fish that has only been there a week or 2.

I have been losing snails lately. But I would say that I have had most of them for a while.

The cynaria started dying a while after moving it away from the plate. I have also since moved the welso and acanthophyllia away from each other. I have since put the welso in a spot I think might get less flow but most everything else is still in the same spot.1000005813.jpg

I drew a line to all the corals that look like they would cause problems... I circled the ones that will win.

A lot of those colonies are going to put out long sweepers at night... or are extremely aggressive and too close.

(?) Means I dont know which would win, but would defintly cause problems with eachother.

I cant tell how close that bright green coral is in the back. But wouldnt surprise me if it may cause some issue. Euphyllia colonies that size can put out sweepers a foot long at night... and meat coral will open up a ton at night and will kill and try to eat anything close to it. Also trumpet/candy cane are extremelu aggressive and I have also seen 1 foot + sweepers on them as well.

Chances are the reason its the LPS coral giving you issues is because they are most likely fighting eachother. Check on the tank early morning before lights turn on.

I'm not worried about those hammers up high next to the orange setostas. The setostas grow like crazy so if the hammer keeps them back so be it.

That galaxiea next to the orange Monti is fine with me. I was hoping that it would keep it in check anyways.

That hammer next to the Lobo at the bottom left is only there because I accidentally fragged it. I was going to mount it back up high but I think I just need to sell it.

I had no idea that the plates were aggressive. I'll try to segregate them a little more.

The frogspawn in the back right is a good distance from the candy cane. I'll post up a side Pic this afternoon.

The yellow candy cane on the bottom left isn't near anything and is dying like it was it's job all of the sudden though.

So I still have this Maxspect nano that I won at a coral show recently. Perhaps I could set that up and get it cycled to use as a hospital of sorta. Worst idea ever?
