Started at the base and has been working its way up. First noticed it 2 weeks ago. No noticed pests of any kind. Params are good, alk is 4 meq. I did just hook a carbon reactor with a gallon of rox media, and changed out my gfo a few weeks ago too.

Should I give it a lugols dip? Its what I have onhand. Ive been holding this for another member for a very long time so I would hate to lose it.

Thoughts?

Appears to be STN or bleaching. How long have you been holding the piece for your friend?

Edit: RTN in my experience has always started at the tips then worked its way to the base.

Not lugols! Toxic in itself, could cause further complications. My suggestion would be CoralRX if dipping is your route.

STN IMHO. I've seen it like this in my tank. Dipping would do nothing if it is STN. Frag what you can before you lose it all...

rtn.. rapid tissue necrosis...

stn...slow tissue necrosis...

A disease which results in tissue sloughing of coral polyps with progressive death of the coral. It can spread throughout the tank to other corals resulting in massive coral die-off. so depending on how fast or slow it is melting away determines the disease.

it can start at any point , it usually starts by another coral stinging it

it is only bleaching if it still has polyps but are white

Welcome to the world of Acro's...If you figure it out you will be one of the few.....Man I had one nice Acro for 3 years..fragged and gave away dozens of huge branches..then one day..it said "I am done, Goodbye" and bleached out in 24 hours or less...fickle little corals... no reason...just goodbye.

+1

At this point you have a lot to save, start fragging! Frag an inch or possibly more above the bleach line when you do.
