AcroPower by Two Little Fishies

Well, I have decided to give AcroPower a try in my 465 gallon. I would not have tried this, except I read an endorsement today of this product from someone in the hobby who I respect a good bit, Scott Fellman. He has talked at ARC Meetings before, and is a partner in Unique Corals, an online coral seller. And he does not sell this product. Unique Corals uses it for their propagated acroporas, and Scott raved about it in a blog style posting he does on R2R.

Can't find it locally, so I have four 500 ml. bottles coming in from DFS. Rough dosage for me is about 90 ml/week, so two bottles should do me well enough for a 3 month trial. Got free shipping and really bought too much, so if anyone else wants to give it a try, PM me and I'll sell you a bottle for what I paid for it, $13.

I've stated before I am inherently skeptical about additives like this, and have always preferred good husbandry practices, feeding fish, and fish poop over adding chemicals to enhance coral color, so worse case I'm out a little money. But Scott has, IME, always told it like it is, and if he is saying it improves SPS color, then I'll give it a shot and report back what my experience is. I find a positive report on this product from Scott more believable than others I have read.

If anyone gets a bottle from me or is trying it on their own, please use this thread to post your results, good or bad.

How do you think it differs from Aquavitro Fuel? I just started using it about a month and a half ago after not liking it a couple years back. I think I skim it out as fast as it goes in now though.

Not sure how it compares to Fuel. I have never used it. Read a few posts about algae resulting from using Fuel, but you never know how the Users are dosing it. Fauna Marin Color Elements don't do squat for SPS colors, IME. I used it for 3 months and saw no improvement whatsoever, with my colors actually looking a little better after I stopped using it.

Ok, I'll do Fuel while you do this and we can compare notes. I believe I didn't have appropriate nutrient export the first time I tried and and didn't have enough coral to utilize it.

Sounds good. The AcroPower product page says you can sometimes see results after just a few days, so maybe I'll be able to see something fairly quickly. I guess I'll get it in early next week, and will post when I start dosing it.

If anyone else is dosing another Brand of amino acids to their corals, SPS or any other kind, feel free to post your product results. The more the merrier.

I read somewhere (don't know/can't remember how reliable the source) that it takes some time for corals to "learn how to use" dosed amino acid supplements. Don't know if this is fact or fiction.

I used to use Elos Amino acids, never noticed any difference.
I do use their Goniopower for Gonipora, and my Goni has lasted a couple of years and is growing and healthy. (I do feed it Nutra-Ova & Sustainable Aquatics tiny pellets, on occasion, too)

Assuming it won't nuke the tank, there is probably little downside to using it, aside from the cost.

I have been using Korallen-Zucht Amino Acid Concentrate LPS. I do see some change. If anything I see much more resilience in the corals in my tank. I am trying Korallen-Zucht Amino Acid Concentrate to see if it give me more color. I'll be interested to see who gets the best results. I did do a short stent with the 2 Little Fishes brand and did not notice a visible difference.

I've seen others say the same thing. I've been using it almost a year and have not had any algae / cyano problems.

FUEL CAN CAUSE algae, or help fuel it.. but so can any other nutrition source.

I've been running fuel for a while, and success depends largely on my observations. Does small over a long period IMO

i agree with Ringo.. ppl look for a miracle product and dump things in their tank that causes extreme changes and bad things happen

I have been using Korallen-Zucht LPS concentrate and Amino acid for LPS. I dose them every day alternatively.

Almost 2 days back one of coral almost died to the temp fluctuation as I had the header only on one end and other end the water was little cold.

I luckily saw them and kept one another heater and added Korallen amino product. Today all are back to life and doing good.

The Korallen-Zucht products are really good for the price and Fuel is just the basic of them less concetrate and not the pure form as Korallen.

Just for full disclosure, Unique Corals will probably start carrying the AcroPower product for sale in the future, as this was just posted today in the R2R thread where Scott Fellman says how much he likes the product, but as of now they do not sell it, and this was not stated when I started this thread.

I tend to be a bit more skeptical if an endorser also sells what they say is working so great, but I am still excited to try this product.

I have been using it for 2 weeks (10 ml per day) I haven't seen a dramatic difference in colors, but have seen better PE with SPS. Overall most SPS appear healthier, but still need time to observe if colors are improved as well. Also want to disclose that I am also using Red Sea Pro Colors A, B, C, and D in small dosages (4 ml) every other day.

Yes I've been posting this info on the boards. I was told by Chris at Einstein Aquatics that because corals do not have these amino acids so readily available in the wild that it takes time (ie: 3months) for them to learn how to "take up" this new form of food. That is partly why during initial dosing people get algae blooms. I dose Fuel and had a cyano bloom in the beginning. No biggie, I cut my dose by 15% and in time my bio filtriation caught up. I value Chris's opinion as he has taught me a great deal about this hobby. He uses ELOS's full line in his personal tank, ProSkimmer, Aminos, SVC. Fuel is just a diluted version of the Elos aminos with perhaps some other additives.

I believe that softies show the earliest signs of benefit from aminos. My acans got puffier than they'd ever been.. Zoas got bigger and grew faster.. I still don't have anything really definitive to report on SPS, but I think that is probably more related to me finding better nutrient export.
