My swc300 has a broken drain i just found out about. Is there a certain kind of bit or drilling the ret of the broken plug out? When I get it drilled do I just epoxy a barbed fitting back in or do I drill and tap.Just dont want to crack the cup removing the old plug

you'd have to show me a picture for me to understand all the issues at hand..

The octopus skimmers have a collection cup .Instead of having to remove the cup they come with an acrylic drain. Ive heard they are bad about breaking off.Mine is broken as well. The little nipple broke off. I'll try to snap a pic.

Here is a bottom of the skimmer cup.there was a nipple there to attach a drain hose. You can see where it snapped off.

I don't see why you could not get some Weldon 16 and just glue it back into place. I'm sure there are some West Siders that have some. After you glue it, let it sit overnight before you attach any hoses to it.

If that ends up failing, you can tap the hole with threads and put a threaded x barbed fitting in there using teflon tape. That is what I ended up having done when the same thing happened on the Orca 200 collection cup I had.

try just gluing it back on. But I doubt it will hold very well.

I would just drill it out and get a 1/2" barb fitting and shove/glue that in there.

I dont have the broken piece is the problem. Can you use a regular drill bit?Its not that I cant do it,I just want to make sure it doesnt crack. When I glue a new barbed fitting do I use epoxy or weld on?

It has to do with the pressure that you are using when trying to drill. I would use a new or sharpened bit and take your time. Weldon a new "drain" if you do not have a piece of 3/8 tubing I will give you a 2" piece.

Thanks:up:

I have boxes of weld on #16 here in the shop if you want to use some.... Or just get a tube its not expensive and works great:)
