An experiment with H2O2 and Bryopsis on Zoanthid frags

Since the Algae is so long, did you think about turning the frag upside down and dipping only the Byprosis in H2O2 to kill it. Maybe it will be like weed killer and absorb the H2O2 through the fern like extensions and thereby killing the whole thing. Just a thought to keep the zoas from contacting the H2O2 so much.

I didn't think about that. I thought the opposite and blasted it into every crevice. I have thought about making a small frag rack out of some left over eggcrate and pouring tank water into the container just to the level of submerging a frag plug. Of course, that would mean 5 minutes out of water for the coral, unless the dip time is shortened and the H2O2 is less diluted.

Edit: Of course now that I look at the tank most of the corals either hang down below the plug (frogspawn) or are growing off the sides and hanging down (zoa, Acan) or are encrusting down the sides (chalice, acro)

Use H2O2 full strength! Corals out of water for 3 minutes is better than dipping n H2O2 solution for 5. Maybe worth a try, since you are experimenting. LOL

Still waiting to see if the bryopsis falls off the frags.

Soon I will dip the rest of my zoanthid frags, then they will all be moved to quarantine. Once I give them all a few days to recover, they will all begin treatment for the nudibranches. Anything worth trying besides daily coral dips, let me know what you have up your sleeve and I will look into it.

If you like this thread I encourage you to create a similar one

The polyps are not opening due to the nudibranches. You can see some bryopsis growing off the frag rack next to the frag, which is why these will be dipped again along with all other zoanthid frags before they are put into quarantine. Manual removal of the dead algae will be faster than waiting on the CUC to take care of it.

The tank will be treated with tech M while the frags are treated in quarantine. The nudibranches remaining in the tank should starve if I can remove all the polyps that have grown on to the frag rack and bottom of the tank. All frags will move into an all zoanthid tank that I am setting up after quarantine.

I haven't gotten to trying any other corals yet, so IDK. IMO this method is intended for treating frags with isolated spots rather than a whole tank. I recommend that you look into kent tech M and treat your whole tank. You could dip and QT some corals if you intend on moving them into another tank. When you quire coral and put it in QT if you notice bryopsis the h2o2 might be a good dip before introducing the frag into the system but as for how it will affect various types of corals I can't say. The favia survived with no damage from the h2o2, I think that says a lot. None of the zoas died either

On your next pass, I'd recommend also taking out your frag rack and either dipping or rinsing it down, too. Thanks for the step-by-step illustration!

H2O2's just too **** useful. It's like the duct tape of pest control.

Yeah the frag rack has got to go, I only dipped a few of the frags just to see what would happen. Of. Purse it did grow right back off the rack onto the frags, but we learned something! :)
