I purchased a trio of females, one died in the car ride home. So i added a male about two weeks later, he got beat up and disappeared. Then ordered an extra male and a trio of queens. Males got sold off before i could pick up as well as two queens died before i got to the store. So essentially i have two lyretails (assumed to females) and a puple queen at the moment. I have no idea what sex any of them are or what to add ???? any thoughts?

True... maybe someone is trying to tell you something about Anthias

Anthias are very very very socially aggressive. Getting random groups will almost always surely end up with lost animals due to aggression. There are a lot of factors, in my opinion, which play into whether they will successfully live together, including feeding, tank size, tankmates, rockwork, etc.

So illl continue this thread to see if i can figure out my sit, ive been waiting for almost two months now for a male to add to my two lyretail anthias but he has yet to arrive. Im pretty sure one has turned to a male as he has the pointer extremely elongated on the top of his fin.....and im also pretty sure that my purple will not make it as hes been by himself and doing very wierd things as well. Id like to remove all of my anthias sell them off (if their healthy) and start fresh, any thoughts on the approach to getting them out and im guessing they should all be added together? should i keep it one type or any thoughts on sets or trios?

I asked Rit the same question he told me 6 months. The last trio of Lyretails I had for about 3 months and none turned male, they all got sick and died before I could see one turn male. About two weeks before they all died from a disease, I added a large male from another member's tank and he died quickly (within 3 days) although I don't know if it was stress, the disease which killed all my fish or from being harassed by the other Lyretails. They were definitely all over him when I put him in the tank though.
The 6 I have now have been in the tank about 2 months and none have changed but I can tell there is one which is the dominant female and should turn in the next couple of months. I was thinking about adding a male the same as you are but decided against it because of the amount of stress the fish would go through moving to a new tank and being harassed by the Lyretails already in the tank. Figured he wouldn't make from my experience from the last one so I'll just be patient. Want me to let you know when I see one change?
@gmpolan: Good luck catching them if that's your plan. You'll need a fish trap to get those guys and even then you probably won't get them. When all my fish were getting sick I tried to catch them to treat them and even sick they are super fast.

Can someone please PM me and tell me where NOT to get anthias from???? I am wanting to get a trio and do not want to get one from somewhere that doesn't sell healthy fish.....
