I have had Vortech's before and really enjoyed them.

I was wondering if I could get anyone's review for the MP10. I think it would fit nicely in my new tank.

Are there any new features that the newer Vortechs have aside from the controller difference?

Just go buy one, it is worth every penny. The control you have is endless. The motor is external and no heat is transferred into the tank. The list goes on.Trust me you will not be disappointed.

This is my experience, others may vary:

I use to have 2 on my 34 gallon solona ( 20x20x20) It was great. One would have probably be more than enough, but I like over kill sometimes. Probably the best powerhead out there. It's aesthetically pleasing with a very small profile and very strong. At full power one is strong enough to shoot water out of the tank.

There are a few models, the newest being the ES ( comes in both wireless and non wireless). The blue box model is fine if you don't plan on having more than one (assuming you can fine on in good condition) The ES models will have more bells and whitles, i.e more modes and a percentage gauge ( i hated the older models cause it was a guessing game)

If you can afford it get it. That being said, they are expensive. NOT over price, just expensive. You will love it

I had a MP40w on my Solana a while back, so I feel ya on the overkill haha.

I have it in my budget for a MP10 but was wondering if there were any other powerheads trumping Vortech at this time.

How is the footprint of the MP10 compared to the MP40? Bout the same, smaller?

That will be good for the aesthetics. I just hope the flow isn't super concentrated in one spot because of that.

Either way, probably going to pick one up anyways. If I do not plan on getting another MP10, I should just save a few bucks and get the non wireless version-correct?

Seems like the consensus is MP10 is the way to go for my tank...

I will have to grab one up soon.

Can I still use the MP10 with a controller even if I do not get the wireless version? I just know that I am not going to have any need to sync up other MP10's together.

No you would need the "W" version to work with a controller. They will also communicate with the Radion lights.

Ahhh, dang. Thought I could get out of 30 bucks lol. I already have my lights...pretty cool they work w the radions though.

You can always add the wireless module to the MP10 in the future if you have a need for it. It's $45

i love my mp10! right when i bought it i put it on a 29g bc to try it out. it would blow water out of the tank. then i put it on a 20x18x24 tank and it does well, but short pulse at 100% barely moves the surface. i think its bc the depth of the tank. when it was on a shorter tank it was waaay overkill, but on 24" deep tank, im thinking i need a 40 for the larger spread

Love mine on my biocube. First time a I turned it on detritus flow from the rocks. I'd had a Koralia nano 425 in it before that. Helped lower my temps some in the summer as well.
