Hey guys, I recently got a pistol shrimp with a Hi gun goby in my pick reef. Love both of them and they paired up instantly. Problem is the den they made is in the back of the tank under a bunch of rock. Is there any way to convince them to move there den at least facing a bit more towards the front?

Sorry buddy....they will choose were they want. Well mostly it's the shrimps choice. It's just like with an anenome. They will go where they want.

Agreed; they will go where they want.

That said, while you cannot move an already established den, you can encourage locations from the beginning. Set your aquascape closer to the back of the tank. Also, slope your sand with more in the back and less in the front. Finally, when you first put the shrimp in the tank, set him down in the location that you want the den opening. He’s most likely to begin his den building in that immediate location.

Sit back and wait - they'll move. My pistol shrimp has taken up residence in pretty much every space of my 120 gallon tank at some point in time over the past 18 months.

When they move they go into "heavy excavation mode" overnight and I'll see a brand new pile of pushed up sand in the morning.

I got a watchman and pistol on Saturday and they have moved twice already. I don't think they are going to stay put. Just be glad they didn't team up with a BTA.

I've woke up to all the sand in the tank moved to one side .. rediculous
