Hey, im planning on getting a Ultra Crocea Clam (Tridacna crocea). What are the signs to see if it is healthy? It looks amazing its purple with light blue specs. Also, for the placement, do I just push it in the sand?
Make sure it's mantle if fully extended. Also, block the light over it. It should close/slightly retract. When you get it, check it's foot for tiny snails (pyramid snails).
You can place it in the sand depending on your lighting.....most clams need a high amount of light to keep color and health much like many SPS.....if you don't have strong lighting then place it up on the rock in a decent flow area....it will take hold with it's foot if it's happy....if it doesn't then move it.....In a nano....(judging by your SN).....the sand should be ok if your running a 4 bulb T5.....depending on depth and yes checks it's foot for pyramids like MvM said....and also be on the lookout for any hitchhicking welks you may have....may not have noticed them till you put in the clam....they can and will kill an eat the clam very quickly.....just a forwarning.....most of time you won't have that problem....
