Few reasons, I guess... don't want sand or rock in my frag tanks. I feed heavily and run nutrient export mode 50% of the time, reef crest the other 50% (Vortechs). Plus I like the more controlled environment with my frag racks and their par, etc.
Also can't put a very large tank on my main floor as the living side of it is above the garage and the more secure side is not a desirable location for a large tank. I'll be buying a house on the west side in the next couple years and will buy around my ability to have a large display tank there. I'm also going to be running a different lighting system on this second tank by choice... now should I have just made one big long custom tank for frags instead of two 80gs? Probably, but I started with a 30g, upgraded to an 80g and now a second 80g... so it just didn't really work out that way.
