hello I recived a kent marine skimmer from a member here great guy anyway I know nothing about them has anyone used 1 or have pics of a setup I googled and came up with nothing but sellers and stock photos also they say it can't be installed outside the sump I don't see y not but don't know any help and pics would be great

The Nautilus TE is in-sump. The EX models were external.

I ran one for 6 years in the 120 display I used to have at the shop.

It's not the greatest skimmer, but it's certainly not the worst. The one I had performed adequately and I had no complaints with it.

It's not equal to a Euroreef or other higher and model, but IMO it performed better than the Coralife SuperSkimmers I've tinkered with.

The EX models had some issues - I didn't like those much after tinkering with a few of them.

But I had no complaints about the TE.

Not offhand. It was in a 20g plain acrylic sump. Maybe 1/3 of the way submerged (the skimmer).

You can adjust the outflow pipe up or down to change the water level in the riser of the skimmer - just slide it up or down. The little plastic bracket that goes both around the skimmer body, and that outflow tube can be moved up or down to keep that pipe in the desired position.

I have a nautilus te - it is about 6" of water and I adjusted the riser to the point of a dry foam coming intothe collection cup.

I would advise checking it daily for the first week while it settles in to make sure it is foaming the way you want

I am not sure about plumbing it externally but it could probobly be done

I would be concerned of the backpressure on the outlet causing the collection cup to flood

If you want external plumbing, try to find an EX model. Those were designed for external use - but I didn't like them very much - too troublesome to dial in, and they had some other issues. We still have one on a tank we maintain, and every now and then it acts up.

The TE was/is a much easier skimmer to work with, at least in my experience.

Cwalt gives good advice on the "dialing in" process with the TE ;)
