Aptasia or not???? Please tell me...

Here is a link to some pics we took of some of the stuff growing on our rocks. We have been told that it is aptasia, but we want to be sure we know what we are killing. :unsure: We want to make sure they are not glass anenomes or feather dusters or anything else. Some seem to have tentacles where as some look like little fans. The ones that look like little fans pop back into the rocks when you get close. The others stay out regardless. I am hoping the pics will help someone ID them for sure.

All but pic #3 is Aptasia. Pic 3 looks like a feather duster, but from the angle hard to tell. If it is a feather duster, they are beneficial.

Like stated above, all but pic 003 are aptasia. Keep the feather duster, nuke the aptasia. I learned a great way to get rid of them from Chris, at Fish Scales. If you can remove the rock easily, just take a small amount of reef salt and rub it on the aptasia. It'll melt instantly. Rinse the rock of with some tank water, and you're good to go. Chris did this with some aptasia among some zoanthid polyps and the zoas were not affected by the salt.

I agree with the others, all but #3. I had those also and used a product, Joe's Juice with good results. Good luck.

Yeah, I gotta get a-hold of some of that stuff. I've got a couple aptasia and some xenia I've let get out of control. Now they're big ol' buggers.

You know, I've been wondering about that. Either that or a thin kalk paste mixture. Just need to find some syringes with needles. Anyone know where to pick those up?

I've had success with lime juice, but it usually takes one or two doses to get them. I used a syringe but without the needle. I just got as close as I could without touching it and squirted it right in the mouth. It will shrivel up, but might come back the next day for more punishment! 2 shots always got it for me.

Any health department.
You can also use boiling water. You have to hit the pest though. Paste works better for the hard to get ones

I use Reef Napalm.
