ARE YOU READY for SUNDAY and beyond?

Ok, it is all ready to go. It started up right away and I ran it for about 20 minutes. It's an 8000/12000 watt generator so I should be able to run quite a bit if we get any kind of extended outage. Besides the power heads and heaters to keep the tanks alive I should be able to run my water heater, one furnace (with a little DIY wiring), a refridgerator and a TV.

Had another power outage and after a half hour I headed out to Lowe's to buy it. They still had the one I wanted and I had just found someone to ask for help getting it onto a cart when my wife called to tell me the power was back on. I left without it.

Last year I finally decided to get it, brought it home and put it in the basement. After a while I figured I better go ahead and put oil in it, hook up the sparkplug, fill it with gas and test it. Unfortunately, it leaked oil so I took it back and got another one. It is still sitting in the basement untested, with no oil or gas. I think it is time to get it ready just in case.

I was lucky enough to pick up a 5000 / 6250w generator at HD today. Got 10 g of gas plus my cars tank so I think I'm all set.

I won't be without anything tank or xbox related for a while. :)

My generator is ready to go to cover the fridge, tanks and TV for the BCS title game. Mockery - War Eagle ... I'm assuming you're not a duck!

For the folks who just got generators, make sure you ground it ... ideally to your main grounding rod (generally outside right below your electrical meter). Also, it should not be exposed to direct rain/snow (and needs to be outside ... obviously).

I'm hoping no one needs to fire them up.

My brother goes to Auburn so that's my SEC team.

Thanks for the ground tip.

Question to all the generator owners, how oil do these things take. It came with a bottle but no where does it say how much. Any help would be great.

It just started snowing about 15 minutes ago. Kind of an icy snow. Now for the long wait and see part.

Not sure what type/size you have, but they don't take much ... generally about 18-22 ounces. If you got it new and the oil container that came with it wasn't completely full ... odds are that you use all the oil they gave you (pre-measured). Double check your manual.

Checking in from Canton! Lots of snow, a bit of sleet but we're here! Even our local community bank is closed today.

I bought a generator right before the last snow this year. Sunday I went to home depot to get some extension cords and came back home with a transfer switch. Spent yesterday afternoon installing it and the outside hookup for the generator. Took about 4 hours. Definitely the way to go if you have a generator!

ITP, 85 and Shallowford Road. Got ~4" on our deck, We still have power and the snow/sleet/rain have stopped for now. Hopefully this is the end...

Heading out to pelt my kids with snowballs now ;>

Douglasville got around 3 inches and it just started to sleet/FR. Chapel Hill Road looks pretty rough right now.
