I read an article some wile back about not leaving ato containers open or exposed and if you don't use it much it can build up phosphate or detrite from sitting to long.
Iv only had it together running a few days and not sure how much its actually using daily but I estimate1.5-2 quarts daily.
My container is a new 5g paint bucket with lid so its sealed all but the tiny hole for cord and tube.
It should be ok to fill up every 10-14 days or so shouldn't it ??

Tagging along. I have a 20g tank for my ATO that I refill once a week. Hope I'm not dumping phosphates into my tank...

If you are using ro/di water that has nothing in it to begin with I don't see how phosphates, nitrates, or anything else will appear in the water. I have never heard this rumor before. Pure water does want to have dissolved particles in it (great for mopping floors) and can, I believe, strip stuff from some types of plastic over time but any solvent resistant plastic should be fine.

From what I have read elsewhere if its none food grade plastics it will slowly leach phosphate , white and black egg crate can apparently do this as well as there intended use has nothing to do with marine aquariums.
I suppose I'll just have to break out the tds meter and watch it.
