Bacterial counts: carbon dosing, skimming and GAC

Here is a very interesting article about bacteria counts in nature versus a variety of reef tank configuations, and thought some of you may be interested.

There are references to the relationship of bacteria to corals. I would really like to see more studies attempting to identify any connections between types/populations of bacteria and coral health.

I have not read the article yet, as I'm medicated from some minor surgery and I'm feeling more like this:

Back to the original subject matter, anecdotally, I can tell from my corals when my bacteria levels or balance is off. Unfortunately, That is the only "PARAMETER" that I find to be the most inconsistent in my tank, and my corals adjust dramatically to them, IMHO.

I just started reading the article today (I did a quick 20 minute scan)...a lot of info to decipher, and I still have go back, reread, and process it................yup....I set myself up for one.....anyway, I can't think of anything much more important to the direction of this hobby than micro-biology, marine biology, & bacteriology.....
