BC14 Take 2

atlweb;615608 wrote: How is the mp10 flow working out for you? Did the clowns get used to it / can they swim easier now?

I have only been running the mp10 when I am around to observe them, but they seem to be doing better with it. Still not out swimming as much as before, but I think they are getting use to it. I still have it dialed down all the way and on lagoon mode, so there is not much more I can do other than take it out if it stresses them too bad. I love the different flow options and everything else about the mp10, but would rather have my fish happy and healthy.

I am in the same boat. My corals seem to like it, but I am not sure how my fish feel about it, and I am a fish first kind of guy. The clowns stay in their anemone away from the flow, so I don't get to see how they swim in it, and my new fish so far seems a bit intimidated by the flow.... I am not sure what to do yet. I am going to give it a few more days and see.

I am the same way with my fish. let me know how things go with your tank and I will keep you updated on mine as well. By the way, love the the look of your rimless cube. I am definitley going to go rimless when I upgrade next time.

Thanks.

The clowns have finally gotten use to the MP10. It took a few days, but now they are back to swimming all over the tank.

I finished setting up the RKE this morning, but I am having trouble w/the pH probe. I have calibrated it several times, but it is still reading 9.9 and doing manual tests(API and Salifert) I am getting readings of 8.2 from both doing multiple tests this week. I also need to get a longer cable to hook the NET Module up to the computer.

The BRS dosing pumps are great and I finally have the amount dialed in to get my ALK and Cal where I want them, but I know this will soon change with the addition of corals. Mg is also right where I want it, but I am just manually dosing this due to only needing a few ml per week.

I have some new frags dripping and as soon as they are in and looking good I will get a few pictures up(probably tomorrow afternoon).

Thanks.

Thank you, but just trying to keep up with your tank.

My MP10 stopped working last night and is just flashing red. EcoTech emailed me back this morning about the problem and gave me some ways to fix it, but they told me when you run it on low settings like I do you tend to have to recalibrate it more often.

I am hoping to borrow a PAR meter here soon to get readings on these LEDs and will post how they do.

I borrowed a PAR Meter this morning and was able to get some readings in my tank.

All of these readings were taken directly in the middle of the tank under both sets of lights

Just below the water surface in the middle of the tank
Center 422
Left 380
Right 391

6 inches under the surface in the middle of the tank
Center 216
Left 177
Right 168

12 inches(top of sandbed)
Center 122
Left 84
Right 90

As you can see these LEDs lose PAR very quickly. I took some other measures in the front and back of the tank and they were 30-40 less than in the center of the tank in the same area.

Now the questions is...Should I upgrade my lights? I have been seriously thinking about upgrading to Cree LEDS. What do yall think?

I answered my own question and decided to go head and upgrade my current Ecoxotics LEDs to the 3.6 LED retrofit kit with the Cree XRE LEDs from Nanotuners.

They said because of demand it would be about 3 weeks, but once they get here I will borrow the PAR Meter again and post the new results.

After emailing back and forth with Ecotech's customer service and trying everything with no luck I had to order a replacement from them. I had to purchase it up front, but once I send the old one back they will refund it. Seems fair.

Let's just hope it gets here soon.

I got my new lights installed yesterday. I picked up the Cree LED 3.6 LED upgrade from Nanotuners, so I thought I would post a few pictures of the tank.

I borrowed a PAR meter today to check out these new lights. I am going to do tests on different setting since the blue and white LEDs are fully adjustable, but for now this is what my PAR readings are with the Whites at 50% and the Blues at 75-80%

I really like the look of this light setup and with these PARs I think I will be keeping it. Most of my SPS are in 500+ PAR.
