BEST Aiptasia Treatment I have Ever Used.

I used to use this stuff to strip deck stain off of wood when I was in the deck sealing business. I have plenty of burns to prove it. Nasty chemical. I would NEVER have thought about using this as a treatment unless I was ready to kill off my tank completely. I'm glad it worked for you! I remember 5 gal buckets with 5 wendys cups full being so hot the bucket would burn me.
If you go to the Seachem Aquavitro product page and look at the product
"balance", you will see that that product, which is marketed as a way to raise pH without affecting calcium, is a blend of sodium and potassium lye (NaOH an KOH), albeit a much more dilute blend than what you use to kill the aiptasia.

I missed this part. Was kinda freaked outwhen the stuff came out lookin like that, I thought I had mixed it wrong.
I used a 5ml pippette. It took one pippette full to kill over a dozen aiptasia, all large ones. I thought that was enough for one night, I'll do a more complete job next time, as this was to experiment with the product.
Neat how they just almost blink out of exsistance with this stuff without having to be certain to stab them.....
If anyone needs some of this stuff, I have more than I'll use in a hundred years. Let me know and I'll pick up some bottles and childproof caps from work and share. I'd be certain to mark it as poison directly on the bottle. (does this offer violate a DOS?)

I have some from my water plant. Thought about using it. Potent stuff. It'll cook about anything you put it on. Had it on my skin a few times. Burns like crazy. Gonna try it.
You have to use a light touch when you apply it. The tank water has to be still, and all pumps/PHs need to be off. It is lighter than Joes Juice, but that's not why I use it. The reason I like it so much is that it works so much better than any commercial preparation I have ever used.
Also, what type applicator are you using? I cut the tube end off one of those cheapo bulb type syringes and attached it to a 5 cc syringe. the opening is very small, so very little of the NaOH solution comes out. Makes a great applicator.
Might not be the best choice for you depending on your comfort level working with it, but I have no issues using it.

OK, this is a VERY old thread but i stumbled across Dave's original thread when i was searching for ways to eliminate some zoas that are out of control in my 210. Any recent or updated tips on this method? Before I give it a shot figured I would check with you all!

actually, i tried the pep shrimp method, and it worked nicely.
i have 4 in my 45. they dont right away eat the aiptasia though.
it took about a month of me cutting back on my feeding plan for
the other fish. one day i woke up and my aiptasia was gone.
i havent had it return since last summer/fall.

Since I just used it tonite to kill off some stupid green palys that I put in my tank about a year ago for some stupid "blank" no good reason, I thought it would be a great "bump" for some members that have not seen this...I use 2 teaspoons with 125 ml of water.
I recently tried this method. Got the lye at Ace who could only sell me a case. Guess I will have to make some soap too. I mixed a 2x batch and killed the nems. Quicly turned into translucent grey goo. It even killed some spots of bubble algae and clove polyps. Great stuff!
