Best Epoxy or best way to moung a frag to LR?

I have tried 2 different types of epoxy - 1 from Home depot (aquamend) and the other from a LFS (dont remember brand, dog chewed up box) it is 2 different sticks you mix/knead together. either way, neither held and my frag rack runneth over. Id really like to find a brand that works so I can finish the project tomorrow.

any suggestions of something that actually works?
 
What are you trying to stick, and what are you trying to stick it to?

Just depends on what kind of coral and what kind of disc/plug/rubble/substrate you are trying to attach it to.

Sandwich it:

Superglue GEL
Aquamend
Superglue GEL

That order, and it never failed me...
 
What type of superglue gel would you suggest or does it only come in one kind?
 
I use the HD brand (loctite, I believe) - but even the one from the dollar stores works

Cheapest "gel" you can find. Long as it lists cyanoacrylate as the active ingredient, you're good.
 
they have the awesome little tubes of superglue gel at the dollar store. 3 tubes for a buck, i usually stock up when i go by. want me to grab u some? i hope to be meeting up with you vefore long anyways

disks - plugs to LR. I have been snapping the plug part off and using epoxy to mount directly to the LR - it stays for a while but eventually (abotu 12-24 hrs later) falls onto the sandbed
 
my question is - all of this mounting has to be done underwater - how do i keep the gel from floating away?

I have a dollar store right next to the liquor store around the corner and I need to head out anyway.....thanks though (unless your going anyway :D but dont make a special trip for me) - you should stop by tomorrow to get those oxides

It won't. Apply it on the plug outside the water, then squish the epoxy on, then more glue. Stick the whole thing back in the tank (the glue will kind of haze over, but not cure immediately) where you want the coral, and push down while twisting.

I have large rocks in my DT that I can pick up by frag plugs glued to them.

:doh: I would have never thought of that!!

what if i want to frag one or remove and re-home? screwdriver?
 
I use channel lock pliers. Hold the rock with one hand, get the epoxy with the pliers (remember, it will be hard as a rock at this point), and twist. The superglue will break free from the rock and there will be a bright spot where there is no coraline algae...
 
thanks for the advice guys - this helps immensly - im gonna make a new post showing pics of my re-aquascape i did today - check it out
