Bill Wann's 20,000 Gallon Self-Made System

A co-worker, who knows I'm in the hobby, sent me this video yesterday.

As amazing as this is, I'd assumed it would already be here somewhere, but a quick search only found some threads from 2007 and 2008 when this was in process. More impressive than the tank itself, is the fact that he personally made just about everything to run and maintain it.

Sorry if this is a re-post, or old news to those of you that follow this hobby more than I, but I wanted to pass along for those like me that may not have seen it. Maybe it'll inspire some wild ARC DIY build! At least those of you that can afford a $500,000 setup with $1,200/mo. electric bills!

You try to light and stock that thing. There is a reason why the reef tank at the GA Aquarium had/has trouble keeping coral alive. It is really hard to light a system like that. 10' of water is really hard for any light, outside of sun light, to punch through.

Wouldnt be too hard. Spend some time doing the rocks besides making a pile and 5 1000w halides would light that way better then the 12 400's for the same power. But if youre spending $750,000 on a system why not spend a bit more and light it properly?

Just seems like a waste.

I completely disagree, this is one of the coolest and most innovative DIY projects I have ever seen. Love the rockwork, not just piles&#8230;

I made the mistake of reading the last few pages... Why they've kept that portion up is beyound me but don't waste your time.

Natural light with preferred supplementation should have been done. But I'm not being critical I think it's an awesome setup.

At least some 1000 watts would penetrate a little more...10 feet is deep. I appreciate the mechanical aspects though.
