blown ballasts pictures

This is my ballast that went out yesterday!!!! Took it apart preying it would be an easy fix! Please tell me this black goop is supposed to be there (as a flame retardant). If not im really pumped because i have another one running my other halide:doh: I just dont know what could have melted that was this big

Edit: It looks too uniform IMO I've never messed with them free bump I'm sure there are some guys that can help

Ya, that's normal electronic protective stuff. Did you smell anything burning?

nope no burning smell.... thats what i dont understand&gt;

Edit: NO DAD I DIDNT THINK ABOUT SMELLING IF IT WAS BURNT
