I really want one. They look like they are hilarious additions to the tank. Unfortunately, the research I've done tends to point to leaving these guys in the ocean. Inparticular, the disease they tend to develop and mortality rates scare me, especially with the high price tag.

I know they need a rather deep substrate and cooler temps. Any more advice? Worth trying to keep healthy?

Yup... had one... loved it and will have another.

The Blue Spot has a lot of personality, is a gorgeous addition and will likely (at lest from my experience and research) find a spot that provides it lots of visibility (aka... the front of the tank).

The one thing I definitely agree with is that you have got to keep the temp stable and lower for these guys. If you can keep it 78-79 you should be fine. I lost mine when my ac went out last year.

Its funny... when they're sitting in their home and looking around, they kind of look like muppets.

tried several in college and one recently. I'd like to see someone that has had one long term. From what I've read, even the large aquariums around the world have been unable to sustain them long term.

I had one and it was fine for a few months. Then it just dissapeared one night! Not heard of many people having long term success with them.

Its my opinion, and my OPINION only, that people's definition of "cool" water isnt the same. I dont think 70-80 isnt cool enough. I would shoot for low to mid 70s, at most. My rationale for that is the type of ailments and failure is exactly as with other cool water fish that are kept too warm (catalina gobies, garibaldis, etc). People swear they are doing great, eating, etc, and then:
