Cabinet build

Yeah, I'd never seen it before, was just wondering if this was something more common than I realized. Very cool idea, though I'd probably take my dremel to them first and round off the sharp edges.

That and maybe use magnets.

Oh no these shells have rolled around in the ocean, buried for half a decade or more and rolled around again - which is why they're black and not their natural white. The edges are long gone and actually quite smooth. I thought about magnets but couldn't see myself taking advantage of the benefit - especially when the encrusters made their way to the glass

Heh. You grow up in Savannah and brush up against any one of the numerous buildings faced in oyster shells, you learn a healthy respect for them quickly. That or bleed a lot 🤣

Quick - take a photo!! It’s filled and only 1/8th of an inch out of level across 72” - pretty good with that. And Over 1/2 ton Of weight being held up by my handy work so that feels good

So the sump and refugium / shrimp tank is done. I used standard Home Depot fittings and pipe along with some spare fittings that came with my second hand sump. For this setup they are more than enough. I went for taps on ALL supply and drain lines and the extra $15 in fittings was worth it for the adjustability and tuning. Wide open the drains sound like a waterfall, partially closed dampens the sound a lot.

I had a coral life light that I bought from pectin on super sale lying around, turns out it has a great fuge light setting and timing. Bonus!

I’m running 2x heaters and an inkbird.

I imagine it may have been cheaper to buy a cabinet but it would not have been perfectly sized for the tank or the room, or be as fancy :) I’d say half way to done - and a few more decisions to make on finishingsView attachment 97202

Lights up (ish). I used 2020 extruded aluminum which works really well. Light and strong. My Red Sea RL90’s are pretty limited in terms of mounting options outside their expensive kits but they are very square so with a bit of ingenuity I was able to create a ‘ladder’ frame that holds them in place by pressure on the enclosure. I have other lights to mount and the 2020 t-slots will be perfect for that.
