I have a 220 that i need to replace a piece of glass in and in order to do that i have to take the top trim off and was wondering if i could keep the trim off and install 2 pieces of glass at the top of the tank that run from front to back and this be suffecient enough? Thanks for the help.

2 cross strips would help with some of it, but the sides could still blow out from the pressure.

I really think its something that COULD be perfectly fine, but no one could ever say for sure, and who would be crazy enough to try?

+1 It probably wouldn't fail right off. But I'd hate to come home from work and find 220 gallons of water and all my livestock in the floor. Not worth the risk.

The main issue.. Rimless tanks glass is beveled on top.. Under the rim probably isn't.. So you would be reaching over razor sharp glass.. No es bueno..

Thanks for the responses. i was just curious because i for one did not want to have to worry to much about breaking the trim but i guess its going to be slow and steady.

Some local stores can order the trim pieces if you break them. I have seen one at a sponser store that was special ordered.

Man, i was really hoping to be able to do this on a large tank like this but like you said i dont want to come home to 220 gallons of water on the floor. I dont think the wife would be very happy about that.
