I just upgraded my lighting from a 250w hqi to 2 100w multichip led's. they're running @50w max. They've been on for three days. Since then, nothing else has changed, but my melanarus is Mia, a chromis is Mia and I just lost my valentini puffer to causes unknown (after the lights faded off). All chemistry is good. All inverts (cuc, brittle star, serpent star, rbta, arrow crab) are fine. All other fish (foxface, clarkii, percula, kole, YWG, 4 chromis) are all fine and eating.

Can the new light cause this? I'm lost.

Honestly, I'm really p-o'ed about the puffer and especially the wrasse, he was about 3.5" and perfectly fine the yesterday and I can't find him anywhere. Has anyone has a normally personable wrasse go missing for an extended period of time? Or had the change to LED cause fish fatalities?

if the bulds ar double ended and your not running uv glass in them it could be possible never herd of a fis dieng from uv rad but could happencould be shock from the light change
check your over flows for the wrass

Voltage? I've seen it happen - even from lights/timers. An electrician (Rich, maybe) explained how it can happen to me once but it's over my head.

Use a multimeter and check the tank for stray voltage. That could be your culprit, either from the lights, or other electrical devices in/on the tank.

No stray voltage that I was able to detect. I just did a 30% WC. Haven't ever seen my wrasse disappear after a WC, I guess I'll wait and see if he comes back out after a few days. Maybe he's just angry.

Just a shot in the dark but, check your salinity. I was fiddling around with a auto water change system and I accidentally added a bunch of water R/O to my tank before, my salinity went down to 1.019 and my Wrasse disappeared for a few days until I detected it and fixed it. Just a hunch.

Wow! People do listen to me now and then. :-)

In this case I don't believe it would be the cause of fish deaths. What I was referring to was that I believe voltage can be measures on all tanks due to the inherent properties of salt water acting as an electrolyte. Similar to a battery. The other possible cause I mentioned was the inductance that a light source such as fluorescent could set up. Again, that would not apply here because LED is closer to incandescent light source.

I am going on a cruise.....on my lawnmower around my yard.

Thanks everyone. Just rechecked. Sg- 1.025, cal -380, alk-9, ph-8 no3-0.

And to make things better, my rbta just ate another chromis. It's face is sticking out of the mouth.

On another note, how long will the wrasse hide? He's been an active member if my little community for months now. Could it be that since I have a house full of people he got annoyed and disappeared? Just want to be sure she's ok.
