I have 2 mp10s and would like to set up night mode on them. I know that the first night you have to manually turn them to night mode. Apparentlly after that they turn on at the same time everynight. I understand how to set the mode up, adjust the flow and the length of the mode. The only thing I don't understand is how it keeps time. Also when I feed I cut one vortech of manually but the other is on my main powerstrip with my pumps skimmer etc etc. So I click off that powerstrip. Will this make the vortech that is ran off the powerstrip lose its time? Or is there some sort of short term memory that will keep it on time?

If your vortechs lose power then you'll have to reprogram it for night mode and all that if I remember correctly.

I believe if you have them set up wireless then by pressing the right button you enter feed mode for both. If you press again it powers them off but I don't think they need to be reprogrammed for night mode if you use that button. If you power them off with a power strip then you do need to redo the night mode. The older Vortechs don't have that 3 button configuration so anytime you turn them off such as you would for water changes you need to set them back up for night mode. I used to have the older model and I had talked to the Vortech techs and that is what I was told back then. The newer models avoid that inconvenience.

On the ES Models, press the left most button and keep it pressed, and the pumps and any connected to it enter feed mode.

There is some kind of internal clock on the ES Models, and you program night mode at the time you want it to start, and like Hoang said, if it loses power like from an outage, you will need to reset it. But if you turn the pumps off a the controller by pressing the right most button down, it keeps the night mode setting. The actual procedure is a quick push in and letting go turns the individual pump off, but if you have a master/slave type setup, then press the right most button down on the master and keep it pressed down, and after a couple seconds it turns all the pumps. To repower them, just press the same button again and all the pumps turn on.

Also, there was some type of software glitch on some ES Models that has the Night mode starting 15 minutes later each night. This is fixed pretty easily with a call to Vortech Customer Service. I had it on a couple of my 40s.

Yep...I had my left and right mixed up. Left for feed...right for power. Either way you retain night mode. BIG improvement over the older models.

how does it know to come off night mode? do you have to manually do that too? I have two MP10's and I will do this for sure! Plus, how long should I have them on night mode? until the lights come back on or until the morning. My fish are up and about by 9 am I think. They go to sleep around 11...

It will come on after the whatever time you set it on for night mode. So if your fish go to sleep at around 11 then I would set the night mode about half an hour before that and then have it come on the same time your fish get up. I do mines for 10 hours night mode from 12am - 10am

Thanks guys guess I'll have to get one of the vortechs off of the power strip to keep it right. I don't have the wireless models but will upgrade soon. No need to right now. My plan is to have the two mp10s and two mp40s. Whenever I get a 120 I'll have the two 40s on the sides and the 2 10s on the back glass.

Make sure when you get your 120 system that the glass is 3/8" or less. Or else your mp10's won't work with it. That's why I had to end up selling both my mp10's to get mp40's when I transfer from my 60 to 93. The glass on the 93 is 1/2" thick so my mp10 wouldn't hold. (or at least ecotech says it wouldn't). Just some food for though when you plan your build. Then again, You don't want a 120g system with thin glass either..... Kinda scary.

good point my brother!!!

Edit: how thick is the glass on a AGA 120 RR? I can't find the info anywhere
