Why can't I grow any cheato. I bought several bunches, but it soon dies.all water parameters are great

I believe the purpose of macro algae is export nutrients. If your nutrient level is already low, you're good, no?

Could always feed heavier and create a need for more nutrient exportation....

Could also be the spectrum of lighting you have. Chaeto wouldn't grow very fast for me with typical 10K and Actinic lighting. Once I changed to a "plant bulb", the stuff is growing out of the tank for me...

I am using a 2 bulb-65 watt pc light over a refuge. But if I don't need it, I don't need it. Maybe I should well enough alone and add what I have left in the tank and my tang eat it all, he loves it

I use a 6500 k par 38 bulb from home depot I had Chaeto for a year and it started "rotting" and then I for a new batch and hanged the bulb. Grows like a weed now.

I grow it (albeit rather slowly) under an old FW T8 bulb in my sump. Its mostly just a nesting spot for pods for me.

The main reason for chaeto is to export nutrients and grow pods for the fish and corals. You could use filter feeder food for your cheato and pods. Lighting is important too. Holley

If you can't grow cheato, you don't need it for nutrient export. If u need a pod farm, use a small tank to the size and don't change the water in that one
