Can't grow out acro

Mike, As it has already been said, test kits are the only way for you find out what's happening in your tank, they are a must. Ralph touched on it in one of his response, but I feel not enough people talk about water flow. If you are wanting to keep SPS, you are going to need a whole lot of flow. How much flow do you have? The other question I have concerns your lighting, how old are your bulbs?, what Kalvin are you running?, how far from surface are you running your lights? And how long are you running them?

Best of luck with your SPS, just take it slow.

I bought this tank preowned. For flow I have 2 hydor 1400's on a wave maker for random flow. The return flow back to the tank?? I'm not sure but seems to be very adequate. My bulbs are 4 months old. Coralife 20k, running with actinic at approx 10 inches over the water. They are mounted into my canopy. Actinics on at 12:00-10pm, the MH come on at 3pm-9pm. I will start test for mag and Phos. My LFS told me with frequent WC, Macro in the refuge I would be ok. My cheto doesn't seem to grow very rapidly. I do test all the other parameters every week and keep a log. Thank you for trying to help me out. This has been my first stumbling block.

the dip in coral rx may or may not have gotten the adult flatworms but it would not have affected the eggs.

I gave this a very serious consideration. I did an inspection and for what ever its worth I didn't see anything

Are you a heavy feeder? Media reactors are reasonably priced for the headaches they prevent.

To me I would say that's a long light cycle for the MH. I run my 250's for only 4hrs. Each tank is different but I've had great success with it.

Great question Ringo because its pretty subjective. I would not consider myself a heavy feeder. They get a matchbook size of Seaweed salad 3-5 times a week. 1 cube of mysis or brine daily and cyclopeeze cube once a week. Pretty light bio load with only 6 fish.

If you have had good success with it at 4 hrs, sounds like I need to turn back my light cycle. How long do other peeps run there MH's??

Wow I guess every tank is different. I am running my 400mh for eight hours over my 90gl.

Mike, maybe I missed it, what sze is your tank??

Here is what I have for flow in my 90gl: mag 950 on closed loop with a Scwd, this enters tank at each end to alternate flow, 1hydro 1400 & 2 hydro 750, all three mounted at one end of the tank, on other end I have one MP 10 for some more random flow. I do not have a big return pump as I want slow flow through the sump area anyway. That is just my setup. Seems to work for me. But like Mr Flame said "every tank is different".

It is a 90 gallon tank. Light time is very subjective isn't it? Here is a pic of what I've got:thumbs:

Upside down really !!

a cube of mysis shrimp in a 90 gallon every day, is a lot of food... imo
I put a mushroom in my sps tank almost two years ago..... I still have one shroom...lol

I run my 2, 400 watt MH 10 hours daily, and the tank gets sunlight for 2-4 more hours....

Another thing to consider is they're still fairly new in the tank. I've added SPS to my tank that did nothing for 3 or 4 months and then took off.

it hurt my neck looking at that picture!!!!! I see you have no problem growing mushrooms.
