Quick Question for carbon dosers... Has anyone noticed fading of monti caps or slight burning of sps tips while increasing vodka amounts? Within the last couple of months I switched from manual dosing to a bubblemagnus doser. Why I never did this earlier is beyond crazy. Right now Im dosing alk, calc, vodka with the doser. Still mag by hand on the weekends. I try and keep my alk in the 7-8dkh range. I also upped my vodka to 7ml a day to try and eliminate the need for phosguard. A couple weeks ago I thought about bumping up my alk a little (10-11range), while at the same time increasing the vodka. The result has been a couple faded monti caps and one or two sps with burnt tips. Ive since dropped back down to 7dkh on the alk, but was curious if anyone else noticed this when increasing vodka?

All I dosed was vodka but my monti's color improved rather than bleached.

Are you dosing amino acids? When phates are that low, you are almost depriving the coral of nutrients. I keep mine between .05-.03. When I went all the way to .01 I lost color too.

Edit: I also feed super heavily and dose amino acids as well as a few other products. In a low nutrient system that can be nessesary to keep color.

I was thinking the same thing about the low nutrients, but the color on most of my sps is fine. Just an efflo and a blue tort that have burnt tips. And a seasons greetings cap that seems slightly faded in the center. Thinking I may jst cut back a little on the vodka for a week or so and keep an eye on things.

Where is the magnesium? Sometimes if you have it high for extended periods of time it can cause montis to fade.

I read about similar "burnt" tip experiences in carbon-dosed tanks with high dKH. I've always kept my dkh around 7 and have not had this issue. Tips should recover now that you're back in the NSW range.

You are dosing way too much, too fast...

Keep your alk below 9, keep gfo, and it can take 3-6 months for your in inverts to acclimate...

It's not a quick fix...back off, use the same nutrient tools that u are using and increase slowly.

Edit: Raise mag to 1250 or so at least.
