Chalk bass eyes are swollen

Both eyes on my chalk bass are swollen can't get a pic because he hides a lot. I've heard of popeye and I read a quick article on it. Suggestions? Should I move him to Qt? The article said that popeye doesn't spread and it will go away over time. Help.

I have used Metro and Focus mixed in the food, frozen in a baggie where I can break off pieces and feed my fish 3-4 times a day. The swollen eye is usuall caused by an infection from an accident, fighting or bacterial infection. Remember to do additional water changes. This has worked well with a clown fish that was torn up badly from trying to pair up two fish that both wanted to be the female. I have a hippo tang that buries under rocks when he gets frightened and he gets bad cuts. I have used M & F both in food and added metro to a qt tank when he hurt himself so bad he didn't eat for 3 days. Great over all medication!

Is ok to use in the DT? We have inverts, corals and other fish in it. Or should we catch him and put him in QT and medicate?

To feed it is fine for DT, if they are sick enought not to eat I usually can caught them and put them in a smaller tank and not worry about changing the water in my DT and the amount of medication I need to use.

He is eating fine or he was last night. I havent fed yet today. He just won't come out from hiding behind the rock work.

I had a candy hog with what looked like popeye and fixed with some frequent a little larger than normal water changes. Sometimes poor water quality can cause it.

We had low ph and dkh. So we fixed that with Seachem's eight.four formula. I hope that water changes and dosing helps. We decided against medication because we can't get him out of the DT. And from what we found, chalk bass are prone to this.

If you mis the metro and focus with food it is completely reef safe. No need to remove him from the display as long as he is eating.


I know you all think I have no heart but now I have an ultrasound to prove it.
