Change Out Bearings on Vortech mp10

Well it's time to replace the bearings on my mp10. I was thinking I would take care of this tomorrow pending I can find some bearings that are priced right and fit (was thinking I may try Hobby Town USA). Anyone done this with their Vortech's?

I had to order mine in. They were not available at Hobbytown (for MP40). The MP10 bearings might be.

From what I've read the bearing sizes changed on the MP10's depending on date of mfg. You'll have to verify what size you have. I believe the most common is 7x14x5mm. But it can also be 6x15x5mm. Not sure if Hobby town will have anything but there are several bearing supply houses in Atlanta. Since you are in there get some high quality bearings, they should be quieter and last longer. Also the MP10 is a sealed case unlike the MP40 and takes a little effort to get apart. Take some pictures and do a DIY for the MP10.

Last time I was in the need of bearings I went to Bearings and Drives, I did get the ones to replace worn ones on my Iwaki water pump, they carry all kinds and sizes, from the cheap option to the ceramic ball ones.
I did search before on replacing bearings on any vortech and the pros and cons on using ceramic bearings, most of the people who fixes have mixed opinions.
I have an MP10 that I would love to have them replaced, or even expend the 100 bucks for the new dry side, I think the bearings have worn out, it's little just a little loud at 50%
I don't know if is right to post the link to this guys but they are located in Duluth. Pm me if is not.

Someone told me that a member works on the aviarium, is that you? well just came to my mind to mention it cause it's close to the aviarium(sponsor) Sorry it wasn't Duluth, but very close :tongue:
when I was there I show them the bearing I was needing they have several chioces hope you can find it. If someone give a pic and specific size I can go and check for them tomorrow may be.

Yep. That's me :). I'm only there a few days a week.

I will give them a call tomorrow and see if they have the 7x14x5mm. I have read the posts on replacement bearings and will go with the ceramic. I will try the freezer trick to see if it will help in removing the original bearings. Only question is what lubricant to use on the replacement bearings?

They're should be sealed, if that's what you meant.

I replaced mine not too long ago and found out that I had ordered the wrong size bearings. Mine ended up being the 6x15x5 size. I used the ceramic bearings and it was quite for a few months but its starting to make noise again. I think I'll replace them with metal bearings this time.

That is what I meant. I checked around at some of the local stores and at Bearings & Drives, but I had no luck finding what I needed. I guess I will go ahead and place an order for some.

Just curious what year your mp10 was. The unit I am replacing the bearings in has a manufacturing date of 2010.

Any sealed bearings you buy will already be permanently lubricated, so you don't have to do anything there.

Also, Hanin tried hi-zoot ceramic bearings the same time I replaced mine with comparable ones to stak, and they were loud in his MP40, IIRK. I would go stock for stock, personally. But if you do use ceramic ones, let us know how it turns out.

I was going to do the same thing in a few months and post a how to thread but u guys beat me to it. I was thinking about using some precision skateboard or inline skate bearings. Usually get a deal on buying a 8 pack so I would have replacements

Haven't ordered bearings yet. I read a little more from others and I am starting to question the ceramic bearings as they seem to be getting mixed reviews. I am thinking I may just swap stock for stock. I will probably put an order in on Monday.
