Chapter 1: IM Nuvo40

I love that elegance how is it doing for you?

I haven't had it too long but its so beautiful. I read they can do well for xx months and then just die, so I've got my fingers crossed.
I dipped and cleaned the heck out of the base before adding it to the tank.

The elegance is going to bed so i was able to take a photo of where the flesh is peeling away from the base.
I believe it came like this bc I saw noticed it shortly after I placed it in the tank.
Based on my research it appears to happen often with elegance and no one knows why. Polyp bailout, low magnesium levels, bacteria, high flow, etc. Everyone has a theory but it seems nothing definitive. I’ll keep an eye on it and hopefully it gets better.

Eeww, wtf and gross.

I Bayer dip all my corals.
I also usually pop the plugs but I didn’t on this one bc it was already encrusting.
So I dipped it, tossed it in the tank and a few hours later noticed what looked like a worm tail sticking out of the coral. I pulled the coral out and removed the worm...I think it was dead, or weakened, from the dip. Anyhow, it’s so gross.
Anyone know what it is?

Dont know what it is but this a good reason to dip your corals. The first tank we didn't dip anything. I dip everything now.

Nene are healing nicely. It seems that they purge their guts, heal their roots and then form a new mouth. Gross and interesting at the same time.

Now here’s the kicker - apparently they are part octopus. The larger Nem was able to squeeze itself through a tiny slot in the media basket prison and move a level up. How the hell...

It looks like my elegance is getting worse. The part where it’s receding has “stuff” coming out of it. It looks more solid than mucus but less solid than guts.
I found a couple of older threads from R2R that had the same condition. I bumped them for updates but can only assume that they didn’t make it.
If it continues to slide, I may end up fragging out the middle and trying to save the two sides.

Actually, I'm going to try the freshwater dip first and then fragging.

My thoughts are fragging as a last resort however if I go down this path, I'd like to do it when the coral is still semi-healthy to give it a fighting chance to recover.

Best of luck to ya. Hope ya can save it.

Freshwater dip probably made it worse.
Anyhow, I just fragged it - kept the 2 sides and tossed the middle (barely any tissue left).
I have hopes but am pretty bummed.

Wife wanted a purple firefish. So I stopped by Atl Aquarium and found a large and healthy looking specimen. Took it home, acclimated it and put it in the tank.
Sucker went straight to the bottom underneath the rocks.
I waited 30 min and then disassembled one rock stack to make sure it was ok. He was fine but then moved under the other rock stack. Haven’t seen him since...

Do these guys always stay hidden or will he eventually start swimming around?

Mine stayed hidden for 3 weeks and is starting to venture out a little. They prefer dark areas I think because they come from deep water I think.

I saw this bright pink anemone with a blue base for sale at Nemo 2 on Friday. It was $90 which was kind of high (for me). But I couldn’t stop thinking about it all weekend and went back Sunday and bought it.

This morning I woke up to a cloudy tank.
Yep. And yep. Gross.

I’m doing a big water change as we speak.
I put what was left of the nem in a media basket just to give it a chance. If it starts to rot I’ll toss it. Poor guy.
