Chapter 1: IM Nuvo40

What happened to it? I want an anemone but they really seem like a lot of work
I moved the larger half back into the tank and it has stayed under a cave for the last few days. I check on it everyday.
The smaller piece looked like it was recovering but then just sort of melted.

I added a slimmer to the tank roughly the same time so I’m not sure if this had anything to do with it.

I also made a diy nem case for my power head out of 2” pvc

So if I had to make a list of poop that’s happened to my tank thus far:

1. Small diamond goby jumped out of covered tank
2. Replaced with a medium diamond goby who also somehow jumped out of a covered tank
3. Pink nem got blended
4. Yellow coris jumped out in front of my the day after and died due to impact
5. Small half of nem died
6. Tried a large diamond goby who ended up beating itself to death on the cover
7. And then my elegance

These are learning points and were all foreseeable to an extent. Gobies are known jumpers, Nems get blended and elegance corals are iffy.

Still...doesn’t leave a warm fuzzy

A lot of good has happened also.

I’ve had these dendros for a while (relatively). They’re pretty fun - need to be feed and live in the shade.

My torch garden. Oh shut up...I’m still waiting for the gold torch bubble to burst or someone to be very very generous

Elegance is officially dead. A lot of the flesh is pulling away from the skeleton and its not getting better.
I'm going to toss it before it nukes everything.

I stopped by Nemos last week and most of theirs from the same shipment didn't look great either. Makes me feel a little better that it was semi-destined to happen and not entirely my fault.

I loved the gold tips and I'll have to try to find one thats aquacultured. I'll also try to find one thats been fragged as they're supposed to do better than the ones with conical bases.

Anyhow, that was my most expensive coral to date. I'm not overly concerned with the price point...I'm just sorry it died.

Please now post a list of the good that has happened :angela:

I'll probably look back at this thread in 2 years and say that they tank is full of weeds, lol
But its the little victories that keep you going. I love my $10 corals...

Actually, they are starting to get more expensive now...

I still miss my elegance. I went out and bought the black widow goni right after my elegance died, which I thought would fill the void but it doesn't.

back several years ago I bought an elegance Coral at a frag swap. A few days later it appeared sick and was deflated. Then while watching my tank at night I noticed a crab in its mouth and based on research these crabs steal the food and also irritate the coral. I did a quarantine and got my hands on dogs heart worm medication that I dissolved into the tank and 24 hours later the elegance was able to eject the dead crab out of it.

that was a lesson to me and it still sucks as others are saying to dip your corals. Never know what unwanted hitchhikers will come with it. I also dealt with a blended anemone as well and having to perform an emergency water change. Not fun

Elegance are so beautiful but I'm not going to touch another one unless its aquacultured. And then it'd have to be a gold tipped one.
So basically, good luck to myself finding one, lol.

Its been a fun journey thus far. My tank just hit the 90-day mark today.

Its been weirdly pricey as well. All of these $10 and $20 dollar corals are adding up...I'm over $3,700 into this tank and I have no idea how. Most things were bought used and I have only 2 corals that were over $100. Its crazy how things add up and I'm sort of regretting keeping this cost spreadsheet, lol.
