chiller temperature

Heaters on at 79.5, fans on at 80, chiller on at 80.2 and lights off at 82.

Does this mean that you don't let you tank go below 79.5 ever?

Correct, at least in the summertime. When it turns to winter, I'll slowly drop all of the values in small increments until I'm at 78 minimum etc.
I doubt the corals care about the "seasonal temp change", but allowing cooler in winter and warmer in summer means less electricity... heaters work a little less in winter and chiller works a little less in summer.

It may be a tiny difference, but it only takes a couple of minutes to reprogram so if it saves a little it's worth it.

When I go online and read about the characteristics of the corals, usually it will say something like temp 72-78, pH 8.0-8.2, etc… So can we allow the temp to drop all the way to that minimum of 72 before allowing the heater to kick on?

IMO, that's too much of a swing for the corals. I try and maintain my temp at around 79-80

+1. I would have NO fears about running my tank at either 75 or 82 around the clock... but what I'm after is stability. According to my RKL, my 24hr temp swing is usually .4 to .5 degrees F.

good point on the stability. I was thinking that I would allow my tank to gradually slide down to around 75 as the winter approaches (over a period of 2 months I think as we adjust the house thermostat ) then stay at 75 during the whole winter. In the winter I always keep my house around 70. Do you think this is too much of a swing?
