So, I took some dirty filter socks out of storage and decided to use them again. These are the nylon, non felt, type. I set them next to the sink in the wash room until I could rinse them out. Next thing I know, they have been through the washer and dryer. They certainly look clean but what about the detergent and dryer softener? Do you think they are good to use or should I run them through the washer again with no soap and no dryer sheets? Just curious as to what the masses think. thanks

Soak em in RO water for a couple days, swap out the water in the morning and evening and they should be fine.

A long with the RO water use some Prime. I have read of a lot of people who run their filter socks in the wash and also people soaking their socks in RO water with some bleach

i would ASSUME some good hot water to break down the soap wouldn't hurt

Just washed my filter sock last night (washing machine with bleach). I'm going to soak it in some hot water and then rinse and let it air dry. I'll have it back on by Friday evening. If I come home on Sunday, and everything is dead, I'll let you guys know.

I will say that the sock looks very clean after removing it from the washer.

If they were washed with detergent(not bleach) and dried with a fabric softener in the dryer then I say toss them. Ask yourself if the cost of replacement is worth the risk.

So what about soaking them in diluted bleach for a day and then rinsing them and then soaking me in RO water with Prime? Is this safe?

Reinstalled my filter sock last night. So far so good.

Edit: Reinstalled my filter sock last night. So far so good.

I soak mine in a 5 gallon bucket with a vinager solution overnight then just rinse.
Maybe hit them with the garden hose too.

I cleaned mine in the washer with bleach, not sure why but I did and then rinsed with some prime in the rinse cycle. I never had an issue.
i may have misunderstood the OP. I thought they were actually washed in a load of cloths or something with cloths detergent added to the wash.
I would not use them but sounds like there are no problems as of yet.

Not sure about your last statement:unsure: Not for me it's not:lol2:
