Hey, the fish store has a clown trigger thats a juvenille. DOes anyone know how fast it will take for it to look like how a more mature one looks (the patterns like you see in pictures). Also, Does anyone have any in a reed tank ? I havent bought it just been doing some research and right now half and half have kept it with coral.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Not really a problem so much with corals usually...Although they can and do eat them usually to keep thier teeth sharpened...but if you have inverts........crabs shrimp clams snails......well......they won't survive the first night probably.....

I have a 6+ inch clown trigger very aggressive I've been bit a couple of times just watch your fingers other then that great fish lots of personality he doesn't bother any of my corals other then the xenia

I'd be worried about your cleanup crew than your corals. Triggers are smart enough, strong enough, and voracious enough to devour your CUC. Even snails and hermit crabs aren't safe - my trigger just flips them over and tears off or yanks out whatever he can get at. As for shrimp and such, they don't stand a chance, even with a juvenile trigger.

alright, i think ill put all my snails, crabs, and shrimp in the sump. I really like it because of its pattern and personality. Nope, Im definitely just a 13 loving the hobby. I think im gonna become a member soon.

Suprised no one has mentioned the aggression that he will show towards ALL other fish, I have yet to see one that was pleasant. Stinks that most of my favorite fish are just not suitable for a reef.

BTW putting all the cuc in the sump will not help you much, down there they die off quicker as there is less food and space and more to compete for it. What size tank do you have again?

100 gallons. Ill probably feed the crew with sea weed and shrimp. I have a clownfish, flame angel, and regal tang. Im kind of worried for the clown. Also, im thinking about getting a juvenille, will this help out in any way to stop the aggression? How fast will it grow? I heard this guy keeping a clown trigger and picasso in a 10 gallon !

IMO and this is just MO. You will be feeding him alot of meaty foods and he will grow very quickly. Whos going to eat the excess food? And as he grows and feels confined he will BATTLE with anything he sees fit.
To answer your question, Yes it will help to get a juvinile but for how long, could be days. Do some searches and you can come up with some pretty amazing fish that are passive and beneficial.
And as to your friend with a clown and picasso trigger in a 10gal. It is just deppressing to know that some lfs employees and MANY owners included do not give a darn about the animals or sustainability. Fish ARE NOT disposable! They are our pets and our dependents. He will only have those fish for a short time before he upgrades, then he can use the 10 as a qt.

If i knew the guy with both of those fish in a 10 gal i would make him find a better home for it. I dont know him, but from hearing that makes me feel pretty sorry for the fish. I have a refugium to keep the nitrates down from feeding. Do you have any other fish that you would suggest? Im look for something exotic pattern. Im not getting the trigger yet, just doing my research first.

Thanks a lot !

Well not many fish compare to him in pattern or color contrast but some that come to mind are Blue spot Jawfish (more discussion needed), Male Mckoskers Wrasse, Exquisite Wrasse, Potters Wrasse (almost same discussion as Jaw), and the Aruora Watchman Goby.

I meet people ALL the time that have just set up Nanos with puffers and tangs and it just pangs me, sometimes I find it hard to give guidance to these individuals without saying "Have you lost your mind?" They tend to not listen afterwards and get upset when I tell them NO to selling them a Grouper. Common occurance, believe it or not.

I have a customer looking to get theirs out of their tank (they didn't get it from me originally - they've had it for a long long time).

Customer told me on the phone yesterday that they've tried to add other fish, but the trigger just attacks and eats them. So they want to unload the trigger so they can get something else.

They have another fish or two in the tank that have been there as long as the trigger (I forget what else they have)... but she said she loves the fish but she hates that it has restricted them from having more than 2 or 3 fish.
