I have a pair of clowns that have been living peacefully together for over a year. I came home today and noticed the male had a couple tears on his fins and wasn't hanging out in his normal spot. I sat and watched for a couple mins and saw the female charge him. The male has breached the surface several times and I'm afraid he's going to jump out. Should I try to separate them or let it play out?

Wait and see. Sometimes the females turn evil and you will have to separate. Hopefully they'll work it out and get busy.

Picked the male up off the floor about thirty minutes ago. He was almost completely white, but seems to have bounced back. Lights are out now and they're on opposite sides of the tank. If this contours tomorrow, she's gone

Probably just "that time if the month"

All jokes aside, hope things work out for you

I had a pair and the female got mean (showing who's boss). It took several weeks before the male surrendered and was fanning the eggs one day when I got home. When I asked about it here (ARC) I was told they would work it out and they did.
Can you rig a cover so you don't lose the male over jumping? Hope he is ok.

I had a glass cover for the first seven years I had this tank.....I broke it about two weeks ago. I do hope it works out, but this isn't the first time it's happened. She's on her second husband now.

OMG...did she kill her first one?

My experience is this: when the female attacks the male, he will wiggle and twitch (a behavior that shows submission to te female) and she will back off.

Anybody else know what I'm talking about? Or is that just my fish/ misinterpretation of what is going on?

Yea, that's how it goes. She wasn't backing of though. I've had her for about three years and he's been there for over a year. The first male I had in died from mysterious causes. I didn't want to blame her but who knows.

Black Widow Clown ;)

Hopefully he'll do her bidding and they'll go back to getting along.

Do keep an eye though.

This made me chuckle.

I got a female rite before Christmas and it took a few weeks but I saw one day after she charged him he put his tail in her face and gave a little shimmy (looking like he had a seizure)
I assumed then it was submission.
Iv seen it a few times now.

Mine used to do that all the time, though I haven't witnessed it recently. I'm hoping for the best, but I may have to pull her. Here's a pic of them in happier times.

Good looking clown , Could you swing by an Ace hardware and pick up a role of screen to put over the tank to keep the male form carpet surfing again

I actually had a roll already. They seem to be getting along for now.

They are two different types, but that isn't generally an issue. They also have been in the same tank together for over a year. They usually even share the same anemone during the day, and only part ways at night as the male seems to prefer sleeping in the hammer.

The tank has been covered since last night. I'm more worried about finding him dead on the sand than on the floor though. He hasn't been moving much all day.
