I've always been skepticle of this method...last night i needed to catch my red-lipped blenny who has been terrorizing my cardinal fish...i got one of the 8 oz plastic coke bottles, cut off the tip, pushed the neck into the body, put in some live rock rubble to weight it down, tossed in a few pellets of food and within 15 minutes i caught the fish...i was amazed...i love it when something so simple works...and so FREE :)

Awesome, that's good to hear and a very creative way to catch a fish.

Yup, nice trick to have when you need it.

I have been very successful using it. One trick I found was to attach fishing string at the outside edge and position it at the bottom of the entrance so when you pull it will immediately flip the trap up instead of slowly raising. Fish are way smarter than I originally thought. :D

Another way is to just turn on the lights. They are blinded until their eyes
adjust. It's works.

Funny you mention this. I made one yesterday to catch my flame angel. Mine however has yet to take any of the bait. But I did see a snail in there this morning...

Maybe I'll luck out and he'll be in there when I get home today...

ive tried this bit im always a bit jerky with the net and wind up knocking over coral etc and the fish still get away lol

My flame angel wouldnt have anything to do with the trap. Finally he got to close to the surface and i snagged him with the net.

Ironically I just caught mine about 20 minutes ago. The trap had been in there long enough I guess, he started going in and out of the trap. Watched him go in another time and pulled up the string quickly and I had him.

He's now in my QT tank.
