Correct Ballast Wire

I'm adding another T5 retro kit, but the ballast didn't come with wire. The ballast specifies 18 AWG solid copper wire. I went to Home Depot, they only had 14 AWG wire, which is slightly bigger wire. The guy helping said it wouldn't hurt anything, possibly help, since the wire just facilitates the flow of electricity. Can someone in the know confirm this? Thanks

FWIW, ace hardware sells 18g by the spool I believe. Frys as well.

but the 14g will work fine.
