1) I realize cyano is a symptom that points to another underlying issue, which I'm trying to pin down and correct
2) Yes, additives are dangerous.
THAT being stated... I dosed my tank 4 days ago with CHEMICLEAN. 24 hrs later a moderate cyano outbreak is COMPLETELY GONE.
The dosing is 1 scoop (VERY SMALL SCOOPS) per 10g, so I loaded 13 scoops. Skimmer off for the duration, and moved mp40s to a more "oxygen enriching" location. Following 48 HRS.. I changed out 25G of water, and will do another change tomorrow of 15G. I also introduced fresh carbon to help get the stuff out of the system.
Not only is the cyano gone (for now), but there appears to be NO ill affects to anything.
Hopefully this will give me a leg up and finally put this stuff away for at least a long while.
I just wanted to share the success.
