Setting up a new Marineland 60 cube and i am looking at getting a new skimmer but i am not quite sure which one to go with. Looking for middle of the road as i don't want to break the bank on this thing. I always here Reef octopus thrown around but what about the Eshopps S120 or something along those lines. Interested in what you guys have experienced or used.

Eshopps work but they are finicky I would see if you could find a used octopus nwb110 even new they won't break the bank

Reef Octopus is a GREAT skimmer for the price. Personally I would get the recirculating one as it's the most stable skimmer I've ever seen. But it requires a separate feed pump so that will run you a few bucks more.

ive used that exact skimmer and a bigger eshopps skimmer and i have loved them. IMO, they have only been finicky with fluctuating water level in the sump... I use ATOs so no problem for me. They will pull a lot of gunk out of your water, thats for sure.

look into bubble magus skimmers they wont break the bank and are a very good skimmer that can pull some thick skimmate out. theres also a company that makes exact knockoffs of bubble magus skimmers down to the pump for a little cheaper so you might want to check them out too i cant remember the name though i think it might be SCA or something like that.

I looked at the Bubble magus skimmer and i saw some for around 200 and then i saw what looked to be the same thing for 100 shipped. It was a different color but all the numbers were the same.

You'll find 2 different voltage versions on the web. Make sure you get the proper version for the US.

Yeah, I have a knockoff of the bubble magus, SC Aquariums 65 and it does the same work as an a expensive skimmer, cone shaped body, and needlewheel pump, it pulls dark skimmate when I had more bioload, now that I have sold almost all of my livestock the skimmate have significant reduced. I'm really happy with this skimmer for the price and performance. I think I gonna have to sell it soon since I been breaking down the smaller tank

they don't sell them in stores........at least not any stores i've been in.

I looked at the site and the prices are fantastic. Would you recommend one of these specifically the SCA-303? Looks pretty good.

I had a EruoReef on my 60cube, and it was great for that size tank... not sure what they are called now. Great skimmer for the price if they are still made the same

Edit: I was looking at the specs for the SCA.. I don't know anything much about them, but the pump for 65g draws 1350L/h which isn't too bad actually.

I have NO IDEA if they are hard to dial in and keep in though

I was actually just having this conversation with Porpoiseaquatics. He seemed to be happy with his.

Just started running the SCA-301 on my 40b. So far I am really liking it. Not at all hard to dial in. Looks like milk inside from all the bubbles and not that wimpy skim milk. From what I have read the new ones have to go through a break in period of a couple week's but for the price its worth it IMO.

i think i might go ahead with the SCA-303. Might be a little over kill as it is rated at 150 gallons but if i ever go back up in tank size it might just carry over to the next tank.

just make sure the height wont be to much inside your stand while sitting in the sump

You have to go way over the manufacturers rating for it to be overkill

Yeah at a height of 23" tall it should be fine as my stand will be around 36" tall. Would you happen to know what the height of the water in the sump would need to be for these skimmer?
