Delayed shipment from NYAquatic

The more and more I read... the more and more disinclined I am to try ordering online anymore, especially not where expensive fish are concerned. Even when the seller isn't screwing up by the numbers, the shippers are not even TRYING to honor their commitments to safe handling and timely delivery. I don't know that I'm particularly interested in wasting tons of time, effort, and salt mix QT'ing fish that are just going to die half the time anyway, and then go through the whole credit and re-ship song and dance.

Knowing my delivery people around here, they'd shove it in the mailbox on a freezing/scorching day at either 0700 or 1900, or set it in the sun next to my garage door instead of walking the 30' to my front door. The best ones are the rare occasion someone forgets and leaves the garage door open, they just set it randomly somewhere inside.

You'd think, after so many claims and losses, the sellers would try to find a shipper that gives a 💩 and can actually live up to promises, especially when you're paying that much for the shipping.
Adding insult to injury we pay ridiculous next day air fees and we end up getting 2nd day air service. Maybe I’ll pay insurance on my packages and start filing claims. The insurance companies will deal with them, they don’t let anybody run up their costs. lol
My delivery people are just as bad as yours; they’ll leave my packages right on the top step out in the open in the sun when there’s shady, hidden from direct view spots on either side. 6:12pm and I’m still waiting for my10:00am delivery.

Well here you go. FedEx bullshit at its finest. They send me this (attached photo) Saying a delivery attempt was made and sent me a close up pic of the label. There was no attempt made no one showed up on my nest doorbell or security cams. They just lie and go on business as usual. A low of 43 degrees tonight. Been after this coral for a while plus 3 zoas. I’m sure the zoas will be fine. Not too sure about the Goni. Very unhappy right now.

health and time permitting, i highly recommend the hold at facility option if there is one near you. I’ve had a great experience with both fedex and ups with that option and get it at open every time.

Yep, 100%. I did see that there are some Humblefish approved vendors, Qtreef and Fishotel.
They will QT and treat the fish for 30 days and have some free shipping options. Fish are a bit more but it’s probably worth it and just the shipping factored in.

But like you said, even with solid sellers, it’s all dependent on logistics of receiving in on time and the package being treated with any form of integrity by carriers. Like how our USPS will mark things delivered and then show up the next day.

@wantsummora acropora you're fine. At least I'm not in the "these delivery services suck" club alone. And the bs delivery attempt made claims must be a trade norm. That's happened to me, too. I was sitting here in my living room at the time they claimed to have attempted to deliver. The package did finally arrive...3 weeks later, with the "live animal" and cautionary stickers obviously peeled off. My guess is it's lazy drivers, not wanting to get out of the truck.

Yeah. So, I'm now feeling like only Humble-approved vendors are worth ordering from online. At least they've been through QT and shouldn't be dying of disease during transport, or shortly thereafter. I know I'll pay a little more. Between the time, money and effort it would take me to QT, versus extra cost of ordering them that way, it seems like it could be advantageous.

All that said, it also seems like, for those of us who are able, the surefire way is to do pickup at the delivery facility. Packages do get lost midstream, but I feel like at least half of the delays I see are local/last-mile, and arranging to pick up would solve that neatly.

I think you’re right on that lazy delivery driver. It was a cold rainy day yesterday. My package is still not here. That goni/price was a good buy so now they are out of stock. I never bought from this coral store before so I’m hoping they insulated it good

Oh yeah, it's just too convenient that deliveries run into "delays", or those "attempted delivery" notices happen when it's cold, rainy, or extremely hot outside. You know, times when you don't feel like leaving the comfort of your vehicle and getting cold, wet, or sweating?

That or it's getting a little too close to quitting time, and no way driving another 5m to deliver your shipment of live animals is more important than clocking out because your employer gives you more deliveries than you can make in time and don't pay OT.

That's IT for me!!! I am so frustrated and absolutely LIVID right now! From here on out, I won't be doing business with anyone who ships through UPS. After emailing Michael at NYAquatic last week and informing him about the 2nd dead fish, we scheduled to have a replacement tomini tang sent to me. Once again, it was shipped overnight air, scheduled for delivery today. It made it through the flights, no weather delays, to Hapeville, GA. Then, of-freakin-course, the UPS trailer carrying my package was late arriving to Dalton (a whopping ten minute drive from my house)...so they decided to delay the delivery by one business day! I don't know where my package is being held, and can't find a phone number to call to go pick it up myself. Been on the phone with UPS customer service. I spoke with a supervisor, who was supposed to call me back, but hasn't (shocker, right?). They wouldn't give me an address or number to the Dalton center, but said they called someone there, and that person would find my package and either have it delivered today or contact me to pick it up. Is betting allowed here (not seriously)? 'Cause who wants to bet I don't hear from them at all today, and I get a nice, cold box tossed onto my porch tomorrow, containing a THIRD dead tomini tang? I'm about to just give up on ever owning one of these fish. And if I ever do get one (alive), I'm gonna name it PITA...an acronym.

That really sucks, I'm sorry to hear it.

For all this headache, despite the drive involved... for those expensive fish you MUST have, it's probably worth finding out where the nearest LFS to you is that's any good, and order fish through them. You may need to take a bit of a drive to pick up, but at least they'll handle the shipping and receiving. You will still need to QT, but it will at least be alive when you get there.

Closest thing I can find for you is Bermuda Triangle in Chattanooga, 40-ish miles from you. I know our life situations are different and you've got some challenges, but I make a similar drive to Southern Aquatics when I need livestock, and I've never regretted it. No idea if Bermuda Triangle is near as good, but it would be hard pressed to be worse than what you're dealing with now.

Maybe this is your sign to open up North Georgia Aquatics LFS :)

If I were able to, I'd consider it, but then I'd be dealing with the shipping headaches on a grand scale...I don't have that much patience lol. Definitely going the LFS route from now on. I'm a little too bummed to think about stocking right now. Too many fish deaths

There seems to be some issue with UPS right now. My shipment is getting delayed due to weather system in Kentucky but somehow miraculously made to Hapeville but too late for the one day delivery that it was originally scheduled for.
If it was supposed to be today, mine was due to a trailer running late. I got the runaround on the phone with UPS customer service. "Supervisors" promising to call me back, but not following through on their word. They wouldn't give me a phone number or address for the local facility, either. Just stalling me, saying they're still looking for my package on the trailer, and they'll call me back when they find it, to either deliver it later today or I can pick it up. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that call.

This is the worst time of the year to ship live stock. I would ask for a credit and wait for the weather to warm up or do what we do and have it shipped via freight to the airport. I would never ship or accept a shipment this time of year.

Well folks, I did what I felt was necessary, given the absurdity of this situation. I dug down, deep into the darkest recesses of my being...and summoned my inner "Karen" (no offense to any real Karens). One more phone call and a long (for me) drive to the other side of Dalton, and I finally have a tomini tang! It's alive, seems to be healthy, and just beautiful. Because the previous one died within the first 24 hours, I'm still pretty nervous about losing this one, so wish me luck. Just to be clear, my inner Karen isn't the rude, entitled, and obnoxious variation, although the statement "I want to speak with a supervisor" was used 😅. Not the best picture, since I took it when he was still in the bag and it's blurry. Hey, I was promised a fish would be here today, so by golly, I made sure that promise was kept!

Re: Bermuda Triangle in Chattanooga, I have been advised:

"It's an alright store. The prices are kinda all over the place, the quality of the coral is hit or miss, and they tend to be out of stock on inverts quite often. I recommend Fish Mania over them, or if you can make the drive, Reef Chasers up in Cleveland, TN, is well worth going to."

I got my royal gramma (RIP 😥) and fire fish from Reef Chasers, and the clowns from Fish Mania.
