Design for 150G Acrylic

Not specifically... Raj and Tim delivered it this morning, and the two of them brought it in by hand.

It did seem a bit heavy, but then again I'm using 3/4" acrylic all the way around, with the exception of the overflow.

My first major plumbing part has arrived - an absolutely huge 2" true union ball valve:

It'll go in between the sump and the pump - a Reeflo Dart, with a 2" inlet.

Not to restrict the flow, but just as a cut off.

HUGE valve. 8.5" long, 5" in diameter.

Came with both slip and thread fittings.

Not sure exactly who made it, I can't tell if it's a Spears, Cepex, or some other brand...

When I first started this design, I went with the idea of having 2 x 1.25" return bulkheads - that was before I decided that I wanted to get a OM-4 and make it a 4-way return.

So the tank is drilled for 1.25", and I got the 1.25" bulkheads - but I'm probably going to get a set of reducers to make it an even 1", since that's what the OM-4 uses.

The bulkheads are slip on the flange side, and threaded on the barb side - luckily FlexPVC has adapters that are only a few bucks.

Also, I am now the proud owner of a gently used MRC MR-2R skimmer, pump, and container. :)

Thanks Hanin! :)

Put the components in place to see how they might "fit".

I'm probably going to see about building a 6-7" tall box to place the skimmer on top of, and place the yelow recirculation pump underneath it.

Is that plumbing inside the skimmer body? There shouldn't be anything there..I'd remove that with a quickness. The only plumbing on the inside should be for the drain.

That IS the drain... Its the piece of plastic that attaches to the gate valve... It was stuck in there for storage, I just hadn't taken it out yet.

Btw, I may want to see about buying some Spears fittings from MRC - I want to make a modified recirc pump header pipe, and I need some unions and such to do that.

Playing with the skimmer plumbing modifications, pump arrangement.

Skimmer is raised 7" off the floor by a box that isn't drawn yet. :)

Pump goes underneath, with the inlet facing front and the outlet going up the front of the skimmer - this is where I'll have to change the fittings.

The recirc pump inlet is on the side of the blue skimmer box, so I'll probably have to use some flexpvc or a few L's to plumb it.

Skimmate container is suspended over the Dart pump, also by a shelf that hasn't been drawn yet either. :)

A Panworld 150-PS, which is the pump it came with when I got it from Haninja yesterday.

The skimmer's going in the stand, and the pump will go right underneath it.

Naw, a recirc skimmer requires two pumps...see the hole between the two injectors, that will need to be fed by some other pump as the panworld should be for the recirc. The skimmer has to be fed water somehow...

Ah, I see what you meant...

The skimmer will be fed water from the Dart main pump, through a manifold.

That Dart's going to drive as much as I can...

that will def work, ill be interested to see the plumbing design coming off the dart..

I am planning to go vertical with a 1.5" to 1" or 3/4" manifold, topped off with a gate valve and then the Oceans Motions 4-way.

There are some pre-made manifolds, like this 1.5" to 8 x 3/4":

Otherwise I will get a few 1.5" to 1" reducing Tees, and glue them together to make a vertical manifold.

I'm not sure yet how many ports I'll want on the manifold... I eventually plan to add a honking big UV in the mix, too.

Mocked up a stand to support the skimmer and waste collector tube, which both will be raised over the two pumps.

Stand is 18" long, 10" deep, 7.25" tall.

Leaves about 1/4" of clearance above the skimmer, which MAY be enough... the entire chamber on the skimmer slides off sideways, with the giant 6" union in the middle.

I may be able to make the stand a bit shorter to give me some more room above the skimmer.

View from the inside left, with the sump hidden...

You going to use the existing connect for recirc as i dont see it in the image above...

Yeah, the recirc connect will go from the right side of the skimmer box (where it normally is), and loop around to the front of the recirc pump inlet.

1" flex pvc should do the job nicely, with unions at both ends.

Playing some more with the pump layout.

I think this one is almost a winner, with some more tweaking.

Made models for the Panworld NH-150PS recirc pump, and made a model for the skimmer collection canister.

I hid some panels from view to make it easier to see...

I had to rate this thread with 5 stars such good info and pics, thanks I have enjoyed your 10 million dollar investment

Heh... Thanks. :)

It isn't $10 Mil... If it was, the tank would be made out of synthetic diamond sheets.. ;)
