I just introduced new sailfin tang and my potter's angel is destroying him. I have been trying to catch him but I don't know how. If anyone is in the Buford, Flowery Branch area and has time to help, please call me!!!!

I don't know how big the potters is, but if it's small enough to fit in a 2L bottle, try making a bottle trap.

Google it. Basically you take a clean, empty 2L bottle (clear plastic) and cut the top off of it. Cut a slit out of the top that is the size of the fish. Invert that and stuff it back into the remaining portion of the bottle. Bait heavily and you'll have a fish (or 3) soon enough.

Wow, that's sweet. I plastered pix of sailfins on the tank but I think the angel is the least concerned of all. This not the first time he has done this and with 150lbs. of LR in a 72 gal. tank, it is a daunting task to net him. I'll look up the "cola catcher" for sure. Thanks!!!!!!

I finally tried the 'cola catcher' (great name!) after spending MONTHS trying to Net, Hook and otherwise trap a flame angel who was terrorizing my tank. It worked within 10 minutes.

As I was getting the last water change ready on my QT for the devil fish, I had removed the heater momentarily and when I went to put it back in , the glass housing busted and "black stuff" splilled into the tank. I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure it could be harmful. I siphoned it as best I could but I am skeptical about utilizing the tank at this point. Any thoughts or advice? I'm running a hang-on with a carbon filter to try to remove the floating part. I also siphoned ten-ish gal. out and have enough to refill or should I just start over using new water and cycling again?

I think this is a great thread simply because it sounds like you have a very healthy potter's. Good job for keeping him healthy to the point of taking on a sailfin.
If you are looking to get rid of it though let me know. I would love one

He is very healthy and beautiful. I'm new and I'm very frustrated that after a few months of trying to get my tank balanced and healthy, I have a numb-skull that wants to tear my new fishies tails off. Grrrrrrr.... can't we all just get along? I'm sure that I'll end up with another potter but this one needs to go for now. So, what ya got to trade? I'm interested in dry-goods and livestock.

Yeah I'll pm ya with what I have later.
To be honest with you though I would keep the potters and ditch the sailfin.
The sailfin will probably do the same thing in a 72 and be territorial towards new additions. Especially another "grazer." Not to mention he will outgrow the tank quickly. However the tank is perfect for the dwarf angel.
A wrasse would hold his own against him. Probably not even be looked at by it.
Just my opinion and being honest with ya.

I was not real excited about the sailfin either. No worries, at the least I was going to try to put him in time-out in the refugium. He has been aggressive to my clowns and torn their tails several times. I put him in second behind a small 6-line wrasse.

Any luck with the trap?
Yeah Potters are one of my favorites. I would put him in my fuge and introduce all the fish you want, change the rocks up a bit, then put him back. Just make sure he gets food. Then again he could still be mean...
Good luck!!

That was my thoughts as well Smoothie! Especially seeing how my sailfin is such a bossy & fearless fish. He has no idea he is only 3 inches long lol..good luck catching the Lil booger. Smoothie would definitely spoil it rotten :D

Yay... two days and finally caught the bully. I was told due to the angels rapid growth that he may be an some kind of ultra-male. For now he's chillin in my fuge, sailfin is livin it up in the main and I'll be introducing a blue regal in a few days when I get back from camping. The trap worked like a champ, thanks for the help guys and gals!!!

You will more than likely run into the same issue adding a tang with another tang in a 72.
