This thread is part of the reason why i have become distant to the club....But the ans to your question is stability....That goes into anything....PH temp alkalinity...etc if everything thing stays +/- 1 you will be fine...My temp is always 78 in my tank...but i have a 1/2hp chiller and 400w heater controlled my ranco controller

Unless you are a refrigeration technician and have all the tools, you are much better off buying a chiller or buying one used.

Who was it doing the Geothermal cooling? I think that is brilliant if your resources allow it. I really do not see needing anything more than some fans for evap cooling. Maybe at some point, but I'm not keeping lobsters either. Plus, I just cant see wasting a perfectly good beer fridge or kegorator DIY!
