DIY stand and canopy

I just ran across this thread, and I am in need of a canopy for a 90g. I could probably build it with the tools I have but I would like it to look professionally done! Are you still building canopys?

Well, I won't be able to come (work till 5, then have to meet Rob at his house). I'm sorry I'll miss it. I do want to come meet you at some point since we're virtually neighbors and all!

Plus, let this serve as a reminder to Rob that you need to be home by 5:20 so I can meet you there!

Thanks David for all of your help.

I really enjoyed my canopy build today.

Folks David is for real....his work speaks for itself.

He isn't satisfied until it is just right.

If you are considering a custom tank get with Dave...he is the man for stands and canopies....

Here is a few photos..its late so all I have is once I arrived at the house and set it up....I will post more of the actual build later. Fits nicely and gives me great access to the tank.

Currently unstained will post final photos when we get the stain finished.

Again thanks Dave for your hospitality and craftsmanship.

It is amazing the folks I have met on this board. Another oyster and boiled peanut aficionado...I thought I was the only one.

Looking forward to getting together in the future.

Tuck

Rob,

Sorry we missed you...would have been the fifth week or so that I have run into you in a row....

Beautiful work. Wish I could have made it just to watch and learn.
I've unfortunately still not found my big tank yet, so building the stand and canopy is on hold. Right now I'm stripping and refinishing a black canopy to try to match it to my pine AGA stand for my 90 gallon tank.

David, have you ever tried to match that AGA pine color stain? I've got the sanding almost completed, then I have to make a modification (making it taller so my halides won't be right on top of the water), and then I'll be ready to finish it. I've done my share of paint work but staining is still foreign territory for me.

No I have not tried that but I am always up to an adventure.lol seriously though I will be glad to try and help you with that. Maybe one evening after work this week except Thursday. Just shoot me a pm.
Tuck and Eric it was really nice to meet you guys. I had fun and that is not easy with a Florida,Lsu and Georgia Fan in the same shop with all those saws!!lol There sure seems to be a lot of good folks in the club!! Makes the experience that much better!

Maybe some of you others have projects as well and we can do another day of builds in the near future.

David it was really great meeting you and your wife and had a great time helping with the canopy which I didn't do much. Your tank and system is amazing by the way!
Tuck the canopy looks great and it was also great meeting you as well! The canopy is going to look great once it is finished and can't wait to check it out.

Eric

A few build photos....

Dave has an awesome shop [read Tuck jealous].

The canopy fit like a glove....I couldn't stand it, up til 2 am mounting it.

Dave thanks for sharing your skills, tank, and experience with me. I spent 12 hours today implementing ideas I picked up from you.

Folks, Dave is innovative, get's my vote for ARC DIY KING...if it can be built he can build it...too many examples to list.

Last photo is of the master craftsman himself.

Eric...also enjoyed meeting you..thanks for all of your help with the build as well.

This seems to be an old thread but I am looking for plans for a 125 Gallon AGA tank with dual overflows. It seems that I must move one of my current tanks (75 Gal) and combine it with a 40 gal reef and remove my sump room.

The salt from the sump (from both tanks) ate up the relays and fan motor in my Basement AC unit. So I will have to replace the unit but will like to make a stand that can hold a large sump with an extension slightly higher on the side for a refugium.(I want it to be able to gravity drain back into the main tank but supplied from the sump. and my fuge is a 40 gal breeder tank.)
